In Cal. we had similar problems of bashed mail boxes. Petitioned the US Post Office and they installed cluster mail boxes. This stopped the teenagers goings on . About 4 years ago someone broke in to them and stole all of the mail from 12 boxes. I contacted the Post office and the Inspector General sent out the sheriff plus their own investigators. They tracked them down. Turned out to be a gang that took the billings from credit companies to get ID numbers, names and addresses of the card holders. The inspector general issued a letter as to the break in and had everyone contact the proper banks, utilities, etc. who then put a stop payment orders on those accounts and also issued new cards and new numbers. All of us also set up an ID theft watch for everyone whose mail was stolen.

The horse farm just south of us has nifty swing away set up. I slid and hit it one morning. So I went to the house to tell them I had and offer to fix it. No Problem they said. We will just go stand it up again! I do not know how they had it rigged. But basically it would just tip over backwards! No broken post or smashed box.

Nyboy I looked as I passed it yesterday. Not much to see as the snowplows have it buried deep! This was many years and several home owners ago. It might be changed now. The box looks different. Not sure about the post. When the snow clears. (Could be a while.) I will see if I can get a closer look and photo.

your weekend house must be in a rough area for you not be able to get into the po box area..

When I get to go up its after work Sat night,come home Sun night. You can only get to the po boxes when the office is open. Kind of like how you can only get to a safety deposit box when bank is open. Post offices are closed Sundays here.

My post office provides access to the boxes 24/7 even though the office itself is manned only about 5 hours a day. Of course, the whole small community gets its mail at this office as there is no home delivery. You are right! Not having access would end my using the p.o. address as well.

I don't suppose there could ever be one that is "proof" against 1 thing or another.
