So true so true !!! I tell people a dog is a luxury
In today's society and for most people a dog is a luxury , but for those of us who own a ranch a dog is our working partner and a guard dog, so a necessity. I expect my dogs to pay for their keep but to be a family pet when not on daily duty but to be always on guard to protect family and property. In the last 20 years, I had to take one dog to the Vet. to set a brocken leg due to a kick from a horse while working . I give my own vaccinations etc.. All of my dogs have been very healthy and happy but still did their job untill the day they died of old age. :)

I have 4 luxuries. The smallest is 35 pounds. Two work for a living, two just hang out in the house and shed hair. I am tired of dog hair and dirt. When these two die, I will not get more house dogs. It's enough to clean up after myself and DH.

I have shaved down my Australian Shepherd, but she is so pretty and it makes her so ugly. I just brushed her with a furminator and got a half grocery bag of light, fluffy hair. The black Lab/Great Dane drops short, black, hair too. And let's not even mention the sand! :barnie I am doomed.....

Bay, I'm thinking you could go into business making something like tufa out of a combination of dog hair, sand and ....Oh, I don't know, pig spit, dandelion juice, or stump water. Just stuff you might have on hand.

One of my fur babies, my heart dog, just had TPLO surgery. Ka Ching. But he's only 10 and has some good years left. He's my 40.5 lb lap dog.
Sorry to hear on both counts...the ill dog and the expense required.

My Cee Cee is three days off her 40day session of antibiotics and is right back to the sneezing, sniffling, and coughing that prompted the last Vet visit. I still feel it is allergies combined with a sinus infection. Now what do I do?
