Can't you find a shorter season watermelon!? I think there is one out there that is closer to 80 days?!

Example:
Cream of Saskatchewan: This variety consists of small round fruits, around 25 cm (10 inches) in diameter. It has a quite thin, light green with dark green striped rind, with sweet white flesh and black seeds. It can grow well in cool climates. It was originally brought to Saskatchewan, Canada by Russian immigrants. These melons take 8085 days from planting to harvest.

Here's another kind:

Yes thats what i'm trying, Triple Crown matures in 65 days and the Golden Crown Hybrid in 67 days. Bush Sugar Baby is 80 days. So its not too bad for a watermelon.
Yeah i'm going to try blacktail watermelon next year.

Thanks!!

i start my watermelon in peat pots in one of those plastic trays for warmth, on the sunny porch. Transplant when they are a couple inches high. Also what ive been planting are sugar babies, small round watermelons. What varieties have you tried.

In the past i tried Crimson Sweet, Sugar Baby and a hybrid variety. I actually just ordered some Blacktail Mountain seeds that are suppose to do great in the north, so we'll see hopefully i'll get a harvest this year....:fl :fl

I just noticed today that I have 6-7 that popped up from last year. I also have a few volunteer cantaloupe, and more tomatoes than I can count. I'm just pulling them out now because I can't seem to give anymore away. :/ Who needs some tomatoes?

I'm glad that i chose to try Blacktail Mountain Watermelon this year its suppose to be the best watermelon for the north, with short cool conditions. I was actually reading about this variety, there was actually someone who direct seeded it as late as july and still got watermelons....thats amazing.
So maybe after all i'll have watermelons this year, this variety is a true lifesaver :clap

I have my crimson sweet going, and I just counted 5 obvious melons being produces on 4 different vines. However... 2 of those vines are so entangled I can't see if there are anymore (but I do see flowers on those.)

:woot :clap Thats great that you see some melons already, i've tried crimson sweet in the past they do very well, disease resistant and good yields.
Good luck with them, hopefully they'll form into nice size watermelons, ohh and remember try not to move the vines that has the watermelons attached on it, they like growing at a certain way and dont want to be moved.

Maybe you should try growing in a plastic container or in an old tire. Your seeds will love the warm soil and so will the roots. Also remember not to over-water and to keep in well drained soil. I'm sure you'll have success.

Good luck!
