Happy for you Major. One's home no matter the value is too precious to lose.

Wow! That must be a great relief for you. I live just a few minutes from Cape Cod, Ma. A great vacation destination. When we moved here 35 years ago the highway going to the cape was incomplete for more than 20 years. The plan was for the road to go straight through a big horse farm. The woman owner must have had some money as she was able to hold off the highway for more than 20 years through the courts. She offered an alternative route to go around her farm from the beginning of the proposal. It would not effect others and preserved her farm. After years of litigation, expensive alternative proposals by the state, of course requiring lots of money for engineering and whatever else it entails. Guess what they did? Used the route that she had proposed 20 years before. I'm sure the stress was a terrible burden for her as it was for you Major. So happy for you.over the last couple years they have <ncdot> been talking about the us-158 by-pass going though stokesdale.
one of the 4 proposed routes was going through the middle of our house and as well 40 other homes.
well as of today's postcard from the <ncdot> they have scraped the idea of the 2 routes that could wipe out these homes, and decided to proceed on either going north or south of us.....
we are so happy and again we feel sad for the other property owners at the same time.....
know it sounds cold, but we have been here for 17 years and by the time they would have started to buy the properties our mortgage would almost be up, and even with the buy out we would have still been in the hole.....

I'm glad your house is not going to be the newest drive through restaurant Major. Even though you certainly have the culinary skills.
