We are about to steam up here in IL. 80's for highs the rest of the week. TWC says Tstorms Thursday and Friday, but it's just 40%. We GOTTA get our hay cut and processed. Home today (finally), had to clean house for company for last Sunday, DH's birthday. DD's helped me clean and sweep, shampoo carpets (downstairs only) bc SIL is allergic to cats. ALL cats banned from the first floor for the whole weekend, and they spent it in the basement, with water, food and their (wintertime) litter box. DD who moved away snuck down to the basement and they fled, bc they don't know her. SIL lasted 5 hours before becoming a little sniffly, so we did good. ANYway, no time to garden, just mow.
DH called from the office last week. WM was clearancing their cheapest mowers, OUT of the box. When he saw them on Thursday there were 12. When I bought one on Friday, there were 4. $125.00/each
My 2nd mower needs gumming out bc I left fuel in it over the winter, so I really needed this one. I will be using it for trim, and saving my bag mower for it's jobs ONLY now.

We have those miserable little black gnats that love the horses ears and will fly up your nose and in your mouth. I have to use the strong fly ointment in the horses ears or they will suck so much blood their poor ears are scabby. Nothing else repels them.

Good Heavens.

It finally hit 60° at 11am but fell below that immediately! With the wind and sprinkles ... Chilly!

This is summer?

we're getting warm here and i'm sweating up a storm when i go out and do anything. which is making progress slow on clearing that north garden, but it is happening in shifts.

i am glad this year that the nausea has gone away that used to plague me when it got too hot out and i would try to get something done.

in the 90s i would be pretty useless nausea or not, but as i can i try to acclimate to the heat because it also helps me lose the extra winter weight which i surely don't need. if i can lose another 5 lbs in 2 weeks that would be great, but i think i already lost the easy stuff... hahaha... good luck down there @Ridgerunner and be careful to not fry those brains in the heat!

We hit 104F today, almost 105. A new all time high, it never was this hot since they started measuring. Even now at half past 10 it's still 91F outside...

@thejenx ,

I thought of you when I saw the report on record heat in the Netherlands.

I don't know what to tell you that would help in a humid climate. Not very familiar with that ... When it goes over 100°f here, and I have to be outside, I soak my hat and put a wet towel around my neck.

Every morning, the windows come open. A large fan can go in one to blow air out of the house. I open and close others windows as we move about and open and close interior doors. About 8am, everything is closed. Interior air will be about 10° cooler from the mid-afternoon high.

We have a window mounted air-conditioner. It should have already been installed in the living room but we have only had 3 afternoons above 90°. It does a fair job cooling the living room and kitchen. Very warm afternoons, a curtain between those two rooms really helps keep the living room cool. Evenings, I open the bedroom door to the air-conditioning.

I really do not understand people who leave doors and windows open through the entire hot summer day. Early Morning Air! Drag yourself out of bed so that you can enjoy it for several hours. Then, try to save that indoor coolness ...

Steve
