the clay here is usually wet to nearly saturation for weeks at a time in the spring. as long as the plants are actively growing that doesn't seem to be the issue. it's during the final stages and wanting to get a good tunic/cover on the bulb that the excessive moisture is the bigger problem. we have a pretty high water table in the spring.
digging garlic from clay is not one of those things i consider a favorite task. as the garden soil improves it makes the garlic harvest better too.
i end up spraying/hosing the bulbs off to remove the clay. it isn't the best thing to do to a bulb that you want to dry and cure for storage, but ... it is ok enough for me...

Here is what I have seen for the past two frigid days: CHICKENS
I left the chicken's door (North side) with the ramp open, but I stuffed two flakes of straw Tuesday night in front of it to block the draft. Then I pushed what was left back in place last night. Chickens are great at picking away at any kind of bedding.
The cardboard box (cut into two pieces) went up Tuesday to block the 25-35 mph winds that were steady until yesterday evening. I have to fight the starlings in brutal weather and they crap all over. I DID block the eaves inside the coop and there is no evidence that any starling spent the night in the coop.

The horses still have cabin fever bc I haven't let them out yet. Going out in a few minutes to kick them out and clean stalls. I Did have help this morning, but yesterday was too much for even Eva to handle. Pyg was ordered to do "couch rest." TOO COLD for a Lab mix with a short coat! Been carrying buckets of water from the basement for 3 days straight. This afternoon is pushing 15 above, so my heated hose should work.

I hope you were able to dislodge all that snow to free your bike!
That extra saddle is for a child to ride with you?
When Kid#1 was a little guy we would ride trails in the mountains with him. My husband would wrap a towel around the top bar for him to straddle and balance him between his arms.

@thistlebloom let's say I managed.
Yeah the extra seat is for our 6 year old son. Slowly he's getting to big for it. I've started with a seat on the steering wheel with a windscreen when he was almost a year old. I'm really liking the seat on the bar, works great. My wife has a seat on the back of the bike, but then you can't see him and he's not seeing very much.
