Hi Lucky, If I may I'd like to tell of something, not unlike this: A good friend asked me to bring a dog over for his wife, who wasn't having fun any more, didn't want to go any where, didn't want to see friends she had for years.
Well, Marie did not want a dog her sister offered her one and she had refused. He nagged me about it, do this for her, get her a dog.
They had me over for dinner and I asked: "Marie I wana get a pet will you help me, I'm going there tomorrow".
She wasn't much help until she saw this Lab, "This look like a good one for you, short hair, won't get all over, has a happy face".
So I bailed the dog out. I couple days later I had to go to LA and asked could I leave her here for a couple days.
Marie told me later." She likes this soup,I pour it on her food." I had to go to Carson City marie watched her till I came back.
I did this so many times, Marie liked me coming to dinner, I was a bachelor, and she could give me advice.
Time passed, when at dinner I told Karl, I may give the lab to these people, they're were kind of hippy mippy don't know how they would treat her in the long run. Marie said: "No you don't, leave her here we'll find a home for her."
Nether Karl nor dared tell her what we had done, Marie and Dalia were inseparable for over 12years.
Marie was the best cook, made a chocolate sauce for elk, may not sound good, it was wonderful.
I took girl friends over there, didn't like any of them till she met Nicole, who is now wifey. That was over 20 years ago.
Richard
Please excuse this long post, I'll shorten it.
@so lucky , I thought of something else too...maybe try Craigslist and look under "free" for people re-homing their dogs. I see so many nowadays being given up because the owner can't keep them, perhaps lost their job or has to move. I know if I were in that position, I would try to find my pet a home myself before turning them over to the pound where their chances are not so good. At least you would know a little more of their background that way and less likely they'd be ill.
@valley ranch , lovely story. Sounds like she knew a good dog & good person when she saw one.
Our last two dogs Gilbert & Sullivan chose us. One day they appeared in our backyard, playing with our dog. We thought maybe they got in when we were moving the tractor. So we tossed them out and shooed them away. An hour later, they were in the backyard again. We walked the fence, and discovered they had dug in! So we filled the hole and sent them on their way again. The next morning they were back. They were having a grand time with our dog, and no one claimed them so we just kept them. I figured they'd been dumped.
Some studies have shown the EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) in fish oil can help, other studies have not shown a statistical difference, but the theory is getting the cell membranes to allow for more elasticity and helping the neurons jump the gaps between each axon and dendrite. That is where medicine has taken a wrong turn in my book, they are trying to manipulate what is happening instead of making sure it's working correctly to begin with. Like filling up the gas tank of a poorly running car, and expecting it to fix the poor running. In my opinion processed bean and grain oils which humans have no business or history ever eating until the 1940's are a huge part of the problem. If your brain is trying to heal itself (and it's made of fat- 70% cholesterol) and you keep feeding it unnatural processed foreign fats I think you may be creating a problem in brain function. I am treating myself for similar issues...
Hi Lee, quote "and helping the neurons jump the gaps between each axon and dendrite." I guess we're talking about Synapse.
You're right some things they've decided to feed to us are not good to have inside.

Father used to take a spoon full of Cod liver oil. He would smack his lips and say umm umm, make it look so good I would have some, I think now all that was to get me to take the oil. I have some in the fridge but it doesn't taste as good as when daddy would give it to me.

I've taken the small Scoby from a bottle of my last batch and have dried it in sanitary, not sterile, conditions. I'll try to start a brew from this, I know some companies do send dehydrated culture, maybe we can also.
Heartworm treatment is the same as the preventative. It wouldn't stop me from getting the dog, unless it was old and had other health issues as well.
Depressed person won't pick out a dog. Since he doesn't want the responsibility, realize that it's going to be your dog and your job to care for her. DH wanted a Bulldog, but not the work. Now I have a Bulldog I can't stand, that he rarely plays with, but doesn't want to give up. =/
My DH doesn't have depression, he is allergic to responsibility, lol.
