You can tell your handsome young dinosaur that you know someone who has a T-Rex of her very own. You may have seen a photo of him on this site once. The T comes from his first name, Tristan, and the Rex comes from the beginning of his last name Reck. "T-Rex, T-Rex, T-Rex!" was one name cheered on with the football, basketball, and soccer teams at Mt. Horeb High School. T-Rex is now in his first year of college and we are all very proud of him.

You are very brave to make such a move. How did you select a state? Have you picked out a property yet?

My grandparents used to live there. I spent a summer or two with my sister helping my grandparents with their garden, going fishing, and playing in the mud. No internet, no tv, no problem!

My sister has spent even more time there than I have, and she will be moving there sooner than we are. She said we could live with her for awhile until we find a property that we like. My sister and I used to be very close, but she moved to England for a while and then to several different states in the US. I haven't seen her in over 12 years, although we've spoken on the phone and through email etc. my hope is that we can have our old relationship.

Aside from that, West Virginia is the most affordable state we've looked at. For the price of 5 acres with no buildings here we can get 50 acres with house and barns there. My hope is that by selling our house here, which we still owe money on, and most of our redundant things we never use, we'll have enough to buy a house outright there, but most likely we'll just have a hefty down payment. We will see what happens in two years. :)

I'm glad your birds are not going to have to be destroyed, happy day!
You and your sis will be able to find your way back to that closeness you had.

What a roller coaster day. I got a voicemail from the vet who looked at Tweedle Dee saying she talked with the original vet who saw my chickens at the fair, and now thinks there might be a case for ILT after all, even though my chickens symptoms do not match. I called her back to find out what was up, only to find out she talked with the state vet about ILT and the state vet agreed it WASN'T ILT and to stop worrying about it.

Sheesh.

So first they have it. Then they don't have it. Then they have it. Then they don't have it again! Come on people! :th

Happily we ended up back on the "Don't have it" side of things, and I managed to get something done today on the big move! I officially started the inventory suggested by @baymule ...only so far everything I've picked up has been a "For sale" item. If I'm actually able to sell everything I've hoarded over the years I'll probably have enough to buy a house outright!

720 days until the count down is over!

I'm VERY glad that your little Tweedles are ok. This is exactly the situation that has caused so many 'chicken folks' to try and learn how to be their own chicken vets. Finding a vet, who has actually trained to work on chickens, and who cares enough to offer something other than 'tastes good with dumplings' is nearly impossible.

So are you planning to start having weekly yard sales? If you do it often enough, you might find that you get a reputation and pick up a few regulars who come looking every weekend.
