Garden Ornament
15 golden beets started in cups since it's too hot here for them to grow nicely outside. I'll be able to transplant in a few weeks to cooler outdoor temperatures... I hope.

Attractive To Bees
Is this your first time growing them? This is our first year with them. We just loved them! Good texture, lovely color, and very sweet. Also pretty on the plate mixed with some standard red beets for color. Yum!DawnSuiter said:

I replanted pole beans since the first ones planted got eaten by the rabbits. I put wire around this second batch and hope that will cover the problem. I planted red potatoes just so I'd have them to go with my beans. The butternut squash is now growing good with several squash about 4 inches long. The cucumbers are finally moving along. I haven't tried growing beets here in the desert but since we both like them then I may try some next year.

Chillin' In The Garden
Today,I planted Merit yellow sweet corn,to be my second crop.It's pretty late for my area,but the County Extension Service recommends it until July15.
I also planted a second crop of Top-Pick southern peas.I've planted them in mid August and they still made.
It's very dry here,so I have to water just to get the seeds to come up.

Chillin' In The Garden
I planted painted lady beans around my corn stalks about a week ago and they have sprouted. Yesterday I planted blue morning glory, cosmos and zinnia seeds in a long brick planter that the chickens had previously killed everything in. This time I put plastic netting on top of the soil. Hopefully that will work so they can't dig up the plants. I'll see if it's still in place when I get home today! I pulled up the pea plants that were pretty much done producing and now I'm gonna plant broccoli, cauliflower & chard from seed in there, probably this weekend. I'm gonna check out the fabric store to see about getting some tulle to cover the broccoli & cauliflower to protect them from caterpillars. I'm also probably gonna plant some more dill since the dill I had transplanted is being eaten by something.

Bok Choy!
I will continue planting little patches of bok choy thru August. Last year, what was sown in late August managed to make small plants, large enuf to harvest by the 1st frost.
The bok choy is following the potato harvest.
Rummaging thru the seed basket might turn up seed for other Asian greens that would also have time to make a crop

edited to add: And, this year I just have to remember to plant spinach seed for over-wintering plants!!

I just took out some of my Spring plantings that were showing signs of pooping out. What I'm planting right now is a cover crop of red clover and chicory. As soon as it's tall enough I'll turn it under for green manure for my Winter veggies. I might just leave it in as a nurse crop and plant collards and cauliflower right into it.

Collards and cauliflower sound so good. We just planted more beans today and carrots. Our Butternut squash is coming along so good and we're eating zucchini and summer squash almost every other day. I'm not too happy that my tomatoes didn't do as well as in the past but growing in the high desert can be an iffy thing.

I'm continuing to dig out and then bury compostables in the garden; then, sowing seed on the top. Now that the old potato bed is full of sprouted and growing bok choy, with things composting 8" to 10" below them -- I'm over in the ground that grew shallots, burying stuff and sowing seed.
I've only grown the arugula . . . and don't like it. But, one doesn't just plant a garden for oneself 
. The other 2 just slipped into the seed order.
Dang the seed companies are quick this time of year !
The 1st thing I set out was kohlrabi transplants. I have no idea how any of these things are going to do but I have harvested bok choy successfully from late August sown seed. No reason to plant any more bok choy, tho'.
