I took all the ripped up plastic off. It was not that it should have been taken off before winter because during the year I guess sticks off the tree would blow against it and put holes. The first cover last 2 years and the replacement one only lasted 1 year. I am trying to decide if I want another greenhouse and have 2 and buy a replacement for the one I have or just buy a replacement, or spend a little more money and get a better quality greenhouse. I am going to have to make up my mind pretty soon. I have kale, collards, cabbage, herbs already up in the greenhouse in the kitchen. I spend a lot of time outside yesterday with 50 plus degree weather, sprinkling on and off, but DS put holes in one of the barrels for me and I filled it with old apples raked up under the apple tree, old kale plants I pulled, leaves and rabbit manure and old straw. I sacked up some walnut leaves to throw away. Seems a waste. I am going to look into that again and see if English walnut leaves were bad for compost or gardens. I think it was just black walnut?? That was all yesterday, so I have to go do some more cleaning today. It is sprinkling off and on.

english walnuts should not be as bad as black walnut, but either way if your garden soil is good, drains ok and has some organic matter other than the walnut leaves i think it would do ok unless you are growing a noted sensitive plant. composting the leaves first is probably helpful in some regards, but if i had them i'd use them as is and see how an area did before i used them in the whole (or all of the gardens).

I have an old bin that is too big for me to handle and I am going to dump them in there and they will have a couple of years to break down and other things I put in there that take longer to break down.

I started to harden off some of my tomatoes, french melons, and cucumbers. Hoping to plant them this weekend. Then next week I start hardening off another tray of seedlings, mostly tomatoes.

Still a little early to plant which means they will just sit there and not grow for about a month. That's ok with me. Glad to get them out of the house and when planted I can see how much space I have left for other things.

I'm always glad when I done with seedlings, haha. Too much work for me.

I'll claim that this was garden work :).

Dug out the garden clamp: 49 pounds of carrots, parsnips and celeriac - that was in a hole about 3' by 3'. Moved them to the lawn for washing. They are now in 2 coolers on the deck. It froze this morning but wouldn't have froze anything in the coolers. I don't really like roofs over decks, unless you can move them back when you want the sunshine. Don't want the sunshine now but the sun is high enough that it shouldn't be much of a problem with sun on the coolers. Might have to bring them indoors if temperatures drop a lot some night.

The veggies had to come out. Often, I have the temporary hoop house over those garden beds by now. It is supposed to begin raining this morning so I can wait a few days. (Need to spray that newly pruned peach tree with sulfur but that can wait, also ;).)

😟 The back was sore last night but I'm okay this morning. I'm not used to the bending that was required.

Steve, we have a retractable awning which I love! Unfortunately it's hand cranked. Motorized ones are too expensive for me.

Have you ever done something that you knew better not to do? Well I did! Planted my starts of my melons and cucmbers and now they are almost dead. Then made another error and direct sowed! I know it's too cold for those. Why did I do that? Geeze

I had my seedlings out in the greenhouse on the patio for a couple of days and they spent the night out. Cabbage, kale, collards, onions. I brought them back in yesterday. I have a lot of dirt turned. I was thinking of planting spinach out in the garden tomorrow but it rained and I think it will be too wet. I have the box ready to start planting lettuce and radishes.

It wasn't really in the garden but -- I mowed the lawn!

It wasn't really lawn grass that I was mowing. Lots of twigs and things from the trees.

So, it wasn't really mowing but I pushed the machine around the yard :).

Changed the oil and washed the air filter and wanted to see how it would start. (I wonder if I have ever sorta mowed the lawn in March before. Kinda doubt it ;).)
