I did make it out into the garden over the weekend -- hauling out 10 bags of composted chicken manure. It's the good stuff; the one that as actually rates the the NPK and puts it on the bag.

I'd hoped to use the better stuff; the one that rates higher from Stutzman but I would have had to buy it by the pallet. I've too much stuff sitting through the winters in the carport as it is, altho the weather during the cold months does keep the odor down. That wasn't the case Saturday when I found it necessary to wash the back of the pickup with dish soap!

It's been okay working outdoors, in the shade ...
Fresh air indoors has been limited right from going from being "too cold to have the windows open" to "too hot to have the windows open."

I think that the garden plants have handled this okay, altho things like the spinach seedlings are right against the ground - apparently trying to muster the strength from seed leaves to bolt and flower before the afternoon high jumps another 30°f!!! Okay, I don't suppose we can expect that but our sometimes ON, sometimes OFF June warm-up looks like it's already clicked ON!

The big news for my garden was that my freshly transplanted tomatoes and peppers seem to have survived the heavy winds that occurred the very next day, after being set out. They don't look like they are enjoying anything yet but the neighbor has been conscientious about keeping things watered as he has begun planting his warm weather crops and using the same irrigation line. It looked like the winter mice nests may have finally blown on through the field sprinklers!

Steve

Our garden is only doing ok, starting a new plot again. It takes awhile to get the clay broken up and fertile. Our tomatoes got frost bit on 5/15 we have replanted since then and they seem to be doing fine.I am going to have to put compost on our garden this fall.

Planted all my peppers into seed trays~hot wax, sweet wax, jalapenos, gypsy sweets and some unknown green pepper from my brother's garden...that plant of his topped out at 5 ft. tall last season, so I'm hoping these are healthy pepper seeds. Six dozen in all.

Picked and ate some rhubarb...still making my mouth water! Checked on the stuff under my low tunnel and I've got pak choy ready to pick under there. I'm kind of waiting a bit until my sugar peas fill out enough to pick a mess so I can put both of these elements in our salads.

72 pepper plants ??????? Wow.

Today, weeded butterfly garden again. First time took a bushel of crab grass & roots out. Seemed like today, more of the same. Crab grass can grow roots. Dog loves to eat them. No, I haven't tried.

Planted, zucchini, summer yellow, & acorn squash. Plus some different flowers including 4 O'Clocks. Spread straw over what garden is planted. Found some old, old pea seeds so they went into ground.

One of those pictures that show what you thought you bought and what you actually got....though I'm not complaining, as I LOVE this color anyway. Just bought and planted this recently, but the buds were closed when I bought it.

I sawed a large swath of burdock. I had to fight the burdock, FIGHT the sprayer and fight the heat. stupid sprayer wouldn't mist unless you tipped it so that the liquid was right at the point of the hose. Took TWICE as long to figure this out. Can't BELIEVE I spent $55.00 on this stupid thing, when a $15.00 one would have given me the same trouble. Anyway, my mower did a nice job chopping the burdock down and I had to saw down some of the pine branches that were shielding the burdock, so there's a good fire in my near future.
I DID plant a couple of packages of bright lights Swiss Chard for DD's back yard. Tomorrow I will dig out the lettuce that I started for their back yard, too.

I planted 6 tomato plants today and I think I am going to be more relaxed about this garden and just go plant and not worry about spacing and just put the stuff in the ground and worry about stuff as it grows. Get some compost around plants, get the weeds if possible and water. My brother brought over some Yerba Mate tea. I think I have been doped. lol I am so relaxed, sleeping better and with all the walking in the hospital and driving and stress of all this, I am waking up in the morning with no soreness or stiffness, no headaches. I also read it helps with circulation and can thin blood. I plan on sticking plants in the ground and some seeds before we get some rain.

DB got it at a health food store. He said it has to be organic and dried and not smoked. DB is something else. He has just worked and never really had plans to do things like buy a house. Then the other day he said he has taken care of other people his whole life and it is time to take care of himself. I agreed with him. THEN, he said he was fixing up his trailer he has lived in for 30 years and then going to sell it. o_O :epThis is earth shattering news for anybody who knows DB. He is going to sell it and buy a house. I have been trying to get him to do that for 10 years. THEN, he tells me when he gets off work (which he does 10 hours STANDING) now he is going for a hike in the hills and I think it is 2.5 miles around. He is 60 years old! LOL So DS and I have been drinking it a few days and I told DS, we better be careful you might end up like your uncle and end up at ACE looking at paint. He looked at me funny and said he was lying in bed thinking he needs to paint his bedroom. Here is the brand he bought http://guayaki.com/mate/2931/Health-Benefits.html
