That's why I didn't buy it for myself....couldn't get past the price of it all, too much of a luxury. BUT...when someone asked what I wanted for Mother's Day, to which I usually reply that I need nothing at all, just for us to be together and have fun, I saw a way they could all split the price and I could still have this very much needed tool.

That's the way it SHOULD have went, but the oldest wound up paying for it all while the two other slackers backed out on their side of the gift. That made me feel bad for a bit, but then I reasoned I'd be using it on their garden too and that they spend that much money just going out to eat for one meal.

Yes on both counts. He knew that but hoped they'd want to do something nice for their mother. And, I NEVER ask for any gifts from these boys, as I never need anything and have few wants. Never want gifts for birthday, Mother's Day, nor Christmas...I'm just a person that doesn't want too many "things" cluttering up my life, so I'd rather have the gift of time, which is usually the gift I give to others too. Much more valuable.

So, the one time I responded to their yearly question with a "Yes, there is this one thing.....", I think they were shocked! I think they had gotten used to me refusing any gift giving and this took them back a bit.

I did make it out into the garden over the weekend -- hauling out 10 bags of composted chicken manure. It's the good stuff; the one that actually rates the NPK and puts it on the bag.

I'd hoped to use the better stuff; the one that rates higher from Stutzman but I would have had to buy it by the pallet. I've too much stuff sitting through the winters in the carport as it is, altho the weather during the cold months does keep the odor down. That wasn't the case Saturday when I found it necessary to wash the back of the pickup with dish soap!

It's been okay working outdoors, in the shade ...
Fresh air indoors has been limited right from going from being "too cold to have the windows open" to "too hot to have the windows open."

I think that the garden plants have handled this okay, altho things like the spinach seedlings are right against the ground - apparently trying to muster the strength from seed leaves to bolt and flower before the afternoon high jumps another 30°f!!! Okay, I don't suppose we can expect that but our sometimes ON, sometimes OFF June warm-up looks like it's already clicked ON!

The big news for my garden was that my freshly transplanted tomatoes and peppers seem to have survived the heavy winds that occurred the very next day, after being set out. They don't look like they are enjoying anything yet but the neighbor has been conscientious about keeping things watered as he has begun planting his warm weather crops and using the same irrigation line. It looked like the winter mice nests may have finally blown on through the field sprinklers!

DH asked for a YET ANOTHER!!!! cruise last year. I said that I didn't mind the Carnival Cruise prices but I was not happy sailing to Mexico and the Bahamas with two stops, watching people gamble and drink and see the poverty. I suggested Alaska, so we are to go there in two weeks. SIL's DH (she won't vacation with him and prefers to stay home---go figure! ) showed us his 2012 Alaska trip, where he paid 4x as much as we paid (ahead of time) total for ours. Unfortunately we will only see the panhandle, but I may never go again so I will be satisfied. DH and our atty associate--we are cruising with her and her husband--are over the moon excited about this trip, so it rubs off.
I will be living on the deck and probably taking 1,000+ pictures. I will take a few photos of the 24K stash that my mother bought when she lived there in the 1940's and gave to me, jewelry and ivory handled knife set, so I'll be buying t-shirts and other stuff and show you.
Don't know what I'll get my DD who will live at my house for a week to take care of the horses, chickens, and most importantly she will assure my dog that I WILL RETURN! For this trip I don't think a beach towel will cut it.
In the 1970's DH drove to Alaska (5 week trip) with his uncle, a NY Professor who had his summers off. They drove to CO, where his uncle had a cabin, then drove the Alaskan highway through Canada and made it to Fairbanks, so this trip is memorable for him.
