I drove to the Post Office today. Brought home a plain brown envelope. :plbb I don't understand why gardeners are sent plain brown envelopes. I suppose it is to keep evidence of addiction from the neighbors' view :idunno until it is too late?

This is my first envelope of the year and it is from Trade Winds Fruit. I like them. The size of their seed packs isn't huge, but it is listed in the info so I know what to expect. I like them for their wide selection and no shipping charges. :celebrate I can get many different varieties and won't have huge amounts left over for the next year.

My name is Linnae and I am an addict.:barnie The worst I got this time is palm tree seeds. :drool Saw some palms growing (in pots) in a yard last summer and thought I'd try them out here. I will plant onion and leek seeds today. :he Should have had them in much earlier, but couldn't find what I wanted.

Today I planted some Detroit beets around a David Austin (Sharifa Asma) rose that is a a half wine barrel. I also planted 6 red potatoes from the store that had sprouted. I planted them in 2 black containers that fruit trees come in. This year I'm trying something new. I added about 3 inches of soil, placed the potatoes, and covered them with 3 more inches of soil. As they grow, I will cover them with straw and not soil the way I did last year.

I'm hoping they will produce as well but will take up less soil in those containers.

Sure enough, finished that stitching. There'll be more later at places I cut it open for snow relief.

Had to cut a horizontal log behind a 2x10 that was right near the chicken wire. Sure enough, snagged it with the blade pulling it out of the cut. Luckily it was at a slow idle, the chain almost stopped. So had to stitch a new hole, check and sharpen blade, and sit n smoke. (whew, close call, no serious bad happened.) Removed the other low horizontal completely. Used those pieces to raise some beds a bit more.

Didn't get the 2 new uprights in yet though. Got everything ready for that tomorrow early though.

One of my bosses came in to pick up my Golf Cart to get it serviced. They had the governor set too low and it was all chitty chitty bang bang going downhills.

Yes, we use Golf Carts around these parts of the lake. EZ GO. :) Some of the campers use ATV's, and a few use Mules or Gators. (Not the live animal versions. A mule is a 4 wheel drive, kinda car or jeep shaped ATV, and Gators are the JD versions.)

So, until that is serviced, I'll be on my JD lawn tractor for doing rounds.
Good job Marshall. And you haven't asked for nagging in weeks. I'm still doing indoor jobs that can't get done in gardening season. Another single digit week. I can't take it anymore.

At least I have some seedlings started in my greenhouse.

The beets are in the wine barrel? Will the really produce for you? WHat do you use for fertilizer?

Cat, this is my first time planting some there. I just thought their beautiful leaves would look good there. I have planted lettuce there before and it's done great. I just wanted something different this year.

I just add my chicken poop compost and an organic fertilizer.

So it is for the beauty of it not necessarily for the beets? I would not think they would make bulbs. Let is know the outcome!

Well I'm really hoping that bulbs will produce since I love roasted beet salad. But yeah, I thought I would kill 2 birds with one stone.

Why would they not make bulbs? They have sun and good rich loamy soil.
