Truth be told, if you feel something is out of hand, you need to hit the little report button and let the moderators sort it out rather than taking matters into your own hands. Yes, it is a difficult topic for discussion, but I am not aware that anyone was flaming or going at each others throats. Rude happens sometimes, but to some degree we need to have a bit of thicker skin and act maturely in response. This topic has been quite educational, IMO, and perhaps the participants would like to continue it respectfully. The Random Ramblings forum is for random topics, as in not garden related. I think we are pretty good as a group at not getting too crazy on here. Believe me, I've seen way worse on other forums. But if you see bad things go on and you feel intervention is necessary, the protocol is to hit the report button, not step in yourself.

Rules are here.

This one would apply I think:

13. We strongly discourage religious and political topics and reserve the right to delete them at our discretion. These topics of religion and politics should be confined to the “Random Ramblings” section of the forum.

If you object to a particular topic you should either not read the thread or defer it to a mod if necessary.

I don't think I could ever report one of the great people here at TEG. I might send a PM and discuss my concerns privately, but these folks are fantastic friends and I don't want to stifle participation here.

Tried that once. Got reply to NEVER contact them again. I haven't. So I no longer do that unless asked to.

If we simply must have people agree with our political or religious beliefs, there are forums for that.

A willingness to fire shots across other people's bows may be protected speech but, I don't need to visit a gardening site to raise my blood pressure.

The forum rules are a low bar. If they are the extent of it, political and religious factions are the result, discourging participants who have gardening as a primary reason for visiting. Ignoring others or entire forums isn't a way to encourage people to discuss the subject at hand.

Deliberately derailing an otherwise peaceable thread because it doesn't float your boat--I'm sorry, but that's just not in good form.

I'm not saying report every little annoyance, only actual fighting. If you have such a low threshold, you're really doing yourself a disservice to bother getting involved. You certainly don't have to read every thread that is posted here and as busy as we are anymore, I wouldn't recommend it anyway.

If one topic is not your thing--move on. If you see trolling, flaming, all out fighting--by all means, report it.

I don't think it is realistic to say that everyone here is "friends". We are many different people from many different walks of life. We can be respectful and courteous at all times, but don't expect that we'll all be cookie cutters of the same thoughts and values. Don't expect that you personally hold the yardstick to determine what others should be in discussion about either. That's the mods job.

:celebrateThis is exactly why you get flag burning, protests, etc. get people riled up, make them take a stand.

@thistlebloom I agree, this gardening site but in random thoughts it's interesting to see different perspectives from group that is fairly conservative in living styles-@Nyboy excluded as we are finding out he is party animal.... :frow
As long insults left out, I'm good. Some threads don't interest me, so I don't read.

@journey11 sorry, should have @'ed u. Not sure why I thought thistle. Getting old. :celebrate
