Steve, it was Westover Plantation. Loved that place. I was one of the last 'lucky' folks to rent The Wing. Living there was a learning experience. I adored the people who owned it. I loved almost everything about the house. I wasn't real crazy about the only heat being a ginormous wood stove in the kitchen... the cracks around the windows you could see out of... having the curtains freeze to the inside of the bathroom windows... the mice... the tourists wandering in and sitting down in my kitchen... LOL

Thistle, my wood stove at the plantation was so big you could drag a stump up in that thing!!! I'd get it going till it glowed, and then place fans all over the house trying to move a little warm air. The first winter I was there, I slept in the kitchen with the dogs :hide

I vote for snow cream!
Those of yall snowed in, have you made snow cream yet??

We used to make snow cream every time it snowed. I thought about making it today, but there are no kids here today, and I would just eat it all by myself! Don't need that!

I am froze in . . . 6:30, 11, 15mph wind, -7 wind chill and gettin' colder!

That Westover Plantation looks like quite a place!

Cane' you are right there where both sides of my American ancestry showed up during colonial times. Well, the sides that can be accounted for ;).

Dad's American family was founded by a boat builder on Chesapeake Bay somewhere near Charles City, if I remember right. That was in the 17th century when he got there.

My maternal grandmother's, father's  family was from Spotsylvania. But, I don't know how they got there or how many generations lived there. Awhile . . . then the kids went on to Indiana. Dad's family went to Indian country too ;) since they ended up with the Cherokees :).

Wallp guys n gals...

I AM OFFICIALLY REALLY AND TRULY SNOWED IN

But that's ok! I got you all here, and usually Hayley from Australia, but she went to a casino yesterday, and even though it's 2 pm there, she must'a slept in.

I'm all stashed up with basic vittles, got plenty of wood, cat food for the kids, feather wand, broom to sweep the dish off, 8 gallons of gas, emergency spare batteries...heck, it usually melts in 3 or 4 days...and if push comes to shove, my car is a Subaru!

Who else is officially snowed in 20 miles from the nearest town?

Oh, that fireplace looks so cozy! Wish I had one upstairs where I could enjoy it.

We had 1.68" of rain yesterday and the totals aren't in yet for today, but it must have been at least another 2". I saw a lot of flooded fields and creeks out of their banks on the way into town today. It hovered around 35 degrees all day and started snowing around 8pm. If it had been just a few degrees colder today, we could have seen a foot or more of snow! I am 19 miles from town. I'd be more than happy to be snowed in as long as the power stays on!

Let's see, what would I do if I were snowed in....

I've got 3 new seed catalogs I'd like to look thru before the children shred them.
I've got some mending that I promised I'd do for my dad 3 months ago.
Put up some Christmas decorations...I got the tree done, but that's it.
Bake cookies....eat cookies!
Clean and sort my sunroom/craft room so I can use it again. It has become a repository for junk. :p

We got to make snow cream a couple of years ago, but we've not had a decent snow since. DD6 asks about it every time. Unfortunately an inch or two of snow isn't going to cut it.

double checked the weather report this morning and its calling for freezing rain with up to 1/4" of ice tonight though tomorrow night , if they are right that means lots of trees coming down along with power lines as well. even though it will be a short lived storm we have gone into power outage mode.

I have learned from hurricanes that it is a good idea to have a "text friend" to send messages to. Especially when you are on a forum where people might be worried about you. When a cell call will not go through, for some reason, a text will--usually. Then your text friend can update everyone on your status.

Wow, Major...if you are getting an ice storm, I wonder what I'll be getting? (off to check the forecast...)

I've noticed that too, Bay. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten stranded out at my dad's farm...(dead battery, went over in a ditch, lost my keys)...and had to climb up the hill and managed to get an SOS text message out.
