I have been hiring weeders the past few weeks for my daylily gardens . I have had some great help from ladies between 16 and 25. So far the old lady has weeded them into oblivion and after a few times they haven't returned. Sigh.....

Wow, thanks for posting pictures Dew. I've been reading how all of you are getting lots of weeds from all the rain. Had no idea it was like that! I suppose you can't use a hoe? I imagine it might not get the roots out. Why don't you heavy mulch?

It's really hard for me to imagine that much weeding. From someone who doesn't have one weed in her garden. But then my garden is tiny compare to you all's. :)

@digitS' your garden must be humongous!! Hours? It sounds like heaven but then again I enjoy pulling weeds.
I deliberately do not try to think of the total size of all the gardens, @CrazyFeathers .

The garden extension has the row crops. It is 35' by 200'. I was also tilling the paths in the big veggie garden. That garden is all in beds and the paths are kind of hard-packed.

The weeds sure have had the upper hand here lately. I am so frustrated with my garden this year, I am half tempted to throw in the towel and just go fishing instead.

@journey11 - I read this as "throw in the TROWEL," which seemed way too appropriate! :D

@majorcatfish I have 2 daughters here that could help if they wanted to. Today I have 6 girls total that can help... I just might have to put them to work helping me. The help sure would be appreciated. But I have thunderstorms moving threw the area today so once again the weeding is being put on hold. :(
It's at the point where a hoe would not do me any good @ninnymary . I have to get down and pull the weeds then I can use the stirrup hoe.

I weeded the front potato and pea garden yesterday afternoon. It's not whipped into shape yet but the potatoes at least have some breathing room.
I'm like CrazyFeathers in that once I'm down there crawling around I get into a weeding rhythm and it's pleasant. That is, if it's not 2000 degrees with the sun burning holes in my head and the sweat running into my eyes blinding me ...
yesterday was very pleasant, sunny but breezy and quiet with just the bird songs in the woods.

The conditions now:
Temperature -89
Heat Index - 96
Dew Point - 71
Cloud Cover - 1% (Sunny, very sunny)
Wind - WSW at 11 MPH

I'll be heading out in a few minutes for more weeding. With all this rain I'm way behind.

Dew your weeds look like you can handle them pretty well with a hoe but I understand pulling the stuff around the plants by hand. It's what I do.

I am GLOWING* to beat the band right now. Rather than sit beside a raised bed and taunt my weeds in the garden, I have embarked upon another round of "mowing all the lawns". The temps are in the low eighty's, the humidity is near enough the same as doesn't matter, the grass has had a week of rainfall to grow on, and I just spent my first 1 1/2 hours mowing pretty tracks in the grass. NOT FUN!

The only reason I'm not still out mowing is that DH came out telling me I had to go in and wait for a phone call. So far I've wasted 32 minutes waiting. I'm ready to grab a snack for lunch and get back to mowing.

DH started mowing this morning. He checked the gas and the oil on the mower. He said the oil was low. I said it was fine and replaced the cap. DH filled the gas tank and them tried to fill the oil with gas. Just what he did a couple of weeks ago when I thought the mower was toast. Some things he does really well and some things we have to get him to let others do.

* Glowing as in women don't sweat, they glow.
