Baymule, I remember reading that story in TSC's Out Here magazine, about a year ago. Lovely story...it made me bawl, but happy tears!

Thistle, you told us about your horse avatar, now tell us about that picket fence.

I know, I need to have an avatar. :hide

Ninny Mary, why don't you take the drive up 101 to ukiah, take a right turn on 20, take the left turn to potter valley, and the next 20 miles up into the woods to visit here at lake pillsbury? You can photo the lake and use that as your avatar.

I could then give you the beans, and packet some other beans for you to mail to those who want some.

You DO need an avatar Mary! :D

That picket fence represents the period when my husband began capitulating to me and my flower bed mania.

When we moved into this house there was nothing but "lawn" ( using that term loosely ) around the house, and my husband thought we should leave it like that. He didn't think I should do any landscaping saying he preferred it "wild". (Me: Whaddya crazy? ) I know what he was thinking, "she won't spend all her time fussing around with those darn flowers and have more free time to ... ( hike/ bike/ cook...whatever...). But I worked my powers on him and my first prize was a skinny little bed under the front window. Having got a wedge in I kept at it ( subliminally of course ) and expanded that bed.

I added plants between the walk and the foundation, and where my picket garden is now was actually his idea. It was supposed to be
a veg garden, but I had other ideas :) .

It serves mainly as a support for some of my clematis, but I love to sit in there on nice days, when I have spare moments with a cup of
coffee or a glass of tea and just be .

It's a clematis, which one exactly I don't remember.
Anushka maybe? I have all the tags from the clematis I plant, the trouble is I always put them in a safe place. I'm not really sure where all those safe places are any more...

Later...

NOT Anushka...sheesh, that's probably not the name of any clematis!
I just totally amazed myself, went to my desk and found a stash of plant tags, waiting to be put in a safer place no doubt  ,
and there it was - the tag to that particular clem!

It's called Confetti. There now. I feel so organized that I think I'll do my paperwork mountain tomorrow. :)

Thank you. The leaf shape made me think clematis but there are so many varieties I didn't even want to venture a guess. The purple one has the shape I'm so used to seeing its nice to see something totally different.

I guess I need to think about an avatar, too, although I really don't know what it would be. Sink full of dirty dishes? muddy shoes? empty gas tank?
I chose my name just to put a positive spin to my thoughts and my prattling. I do feel lucky for so many things, such as being as healthy as I am, not having an abusive spouse, having loving children, living in a safe place, having plenty to eat. I am not particularly "religious" in the usual sense, so I felt calling myself "so blessed" or something similar would signify a mantle around me that is not necessarily there. And although I am often cynical, I am also cheerful most of the time. So "Smiles" might have been a choice, too. Good thing it's taken! :D
