Everyone has such moving reasons... I will just have to agree with everyone.

It just feels so darn good on every level... emotionally, spiritually, physically and can even put some Moola in the pocket! ;)

So many wonderful reasons...I have to agree with all of them. I have a very crude wooden sign on which I painted the word "sanctuary" -- it hangs on the garden post - that pretty much sums it up...wonderful fresh food, exercise, time to meditate and commune with my Maker and the list goes on and on.....:tools

Everything tastes better and is fresher.

I know what's in it, and on it.

No herbicides or pesticides.

Possibility to make some $$.

Exercise and fresh air.

Environmentalty friendy.

Love watching things grow.

Sense of satisfaction at my own achievements.

Always something new to learn and try.

I think I inherited the "Farming" gene. Both sides of my family had farms in Ohio.

I am crazy to attempt gardening in the desert of Arizona!

It is NOT cost effective to grow vegetables or fruits here.

It is frustrating to have 100+ degree days, and when the wind picks up at those temperatures, it is just too stressful for most "non native" plants.

So.. the reason I garden, must be because I am crazy!

But, when Spring comes, if I don't dig in the dirt and plant things, I will probably be crazier! I just HAVE to plant things!!

I do it because

1. For the peace & relaxation
2. Exercise
3. Having fresh food on the table from the garden
4. Keeps me out of trouble
5. I grew up gardening

Several replies here made me giggle.

All those reasons for me, plus when I quit work to be a mom and homemaker, I get a lot of the same satisfaction from it as I would earning a paycheck (maybe more ;) ) I joke that my husband is the bread-winner, but I am the fruit, veggie and poultry-winner.
