:frow Hattie,

I found that link just last night and almost asked you if you had seen it, yet, this morning......but got side tracked putting timbers around the new 15' X 20' plot I got cleared and ready. Just finished it up and it looks mighty "lottie".:)

I saw on MSN's web site about the storms in Europe. They had some footage of the flooding and damage. Sure do hate it for them. Nature is ALWAYS in charge and sometimes asserts herself.....and she sure has done that this year, across the globe.

Good morning!

I thought I would add this sit to our collection as it shows how an area of London is trying to change the way they live & eat. It is part of the changing way of thinking which is going on over here & it is just in it's infancy......but there are many of these projects all over the country.

:frow Hattie,

Interesting link. Brits are tired of being "held up" at the grocery stores, huh.

Have wonder, though....is meats much of a part of British diet? Never seem to hear of any on the blogs...to go along with the veggies gathered.

Hi boggy b,

Many Brits eat a lot of meat but it is very much more expensive here & fish is even more pricey......unfortunately. Of course we have a lot of vegetarians, vegans etc. Recently there seems to have been a large rise in numbers of people on restricted diets due to food allergies.

There has been a Government backed initiative trying to get people to eat more fruit & vegetables & this is encouraged & taught in schools etc. They also backed healthier food for school dinners & bought back proper kitchens in schools instead of just buying in ready-made rubbish food that was just warmed up for the kids. They have now gone back to teaching cooking in a lot of schools now. So things are getting a bit better. A lot of schools that have the space have vegetable gardens & gardening clubs -- these are very popular -- some even keep a few farm animals.

I like the sound of that....teaching the younger generation things that are truely important and that were beginning to fall by the wayside. Cooking, gardening and keeping animals, over here, has been replaced by fast food and fast living......such a waste of the time we each have on this "rock" soaring through space.
Next to Gardening, composting, and artifact (arrowhead) hunting...cooking is something I REALLY enjoy.

Every time I post a new fix now I worry in case I have already passed it on to you. I really need to go through all of them & note them down --- but as I am now deep into my Spring cleaning mode I don't have the time......

So finger's crossed :fl

This mentions a would-be theft on the allotment site........This seems to be happening rather a lot at the moment. So disheartening when you have worked so hard to provide for your family & friends.

Hahahaha....you can uncross your fingers. Never run across this one, before. It is amazing how many UK gardening blogs are "out there".....I sure am glad, too.

Sorry I've been remiss by not posting new articles or blogs BUT Spring cleaning called (very loudly...!!).

I thought this article was interesting as it shows how opinions & attitudes are changing now. :celebrate

At long last my garden soil is drying out & I might be able to work it soon. Unfortunately it has turned very cold again & we had a serious frost last night (with frozen solid chicken waterers -- Hey-ho.....!!) but it is very bright & sunny during the daytime.

Bring on the Spring.......SOON...!!! :tools :tools :tools

A lot of things working against Irish gardeners....availability of land, long waiting lists, short growing season, weather, gov't regulation......can't imagine that kind of adversity to the desire to "dig in the dirt".

The irishallotment link is a great site to explore, too. (accessed from your link)
