SandraMort]I looooove the gutters!!! How do you attach them? I've got a set of shelves that attach to bars without a back. I was trying to think of how to use those for multi level salad greens and gutters could be the perfect answer. How do you attach them? How do they drain? Sandra

DH sunk 4X4 posts into the flower beds. Then nailed them to one side for stability. The gutters are screwed to the posts. I *think* he used the gutter hangers. The end caps where placed on, but not sealed with any thing. He was going to punch a few drain holes.
(I do not think he ever did.) They do not hold a deep amount of dirt so in the sun and wind we need to water them at least every other day. So far we have not harvested any greens from them. The plants are much smaller than the ones planted in the ground. Probable cause, he filled them with dirt from the feild bank and did not add any compost of other enrichments. :( Still they look good, are out of reach of the rabbits and saving space for other stuff! I will try to get pics posted later this week on how things are growing.

Kassaundra- You must know that we only take pictures after the weeding is done! I have been really keeping up with it. My husband is having his second knee replacement done in the beginning of July. He will be out of commission for a while and needing a lot of care for at least 2 weeks . So I have to try to keep things in order now. I an doing a lot of tilling and mulching. I also used organic preen, corn gluten, on some of the more difficult to weed plants. It is very expensive for the ground it covers. Once my plants are large they will be on their own with the weeds.

LOL, so that's the trick. Well it isn't just the state of weeds in my garden, but everyone's gardens are in nice neat well placed rows, and mine looks like the crazy cat lady aunt that took to many "pretty pills" before she planted her garden. But coloring inside the lines has never been my strong suit anyway.

Some updated pics as of today. Things have taken off and everything is healthy - now the trick is to keep it that way as we move into our 100 degree plus weather!

These are Celebrity. For some reason they are coming along faster than the Early Girl.

The beans are starting to climb the cattle panel arch.

A Cocozelle squash. Probably will be harvested tomorrow!!! YUM

The poor baby cucumber plants. Since they came up several weeks ago, they have been munched to pieces by some unidentified pest, but I finally dusted them with Sevin and now they are trying to come back.

All this rain we've had, things are really starting to get underway now.

Here's the main garden. Raspberries and dill in the foreground, a row of new rhubarb to the right, tiny cuke seedlings and pole beans just down from that. All the stakes are lying where my 50-some tomatoes are...just waitin' on hubby to come do his thing. They are all labeled for what kind they are, which is why they are lying there all funny. Peppers and eggplant after that. Several rows of bush beans on either side of that dang concrete pad (and weeds), and a short row of potatoes all the way at the end. The smaller garden in the background is my sweet corn patch, planted half for now and another planting goes in this Saturday. Corn is only about 5" tall right now.

My raised bed potatoes are very happy! Been hilled 3 times and I can't wait to see what they've got growing under there. The purple blooms on the red pontiac are so pretty. Kennebecs in there too.

One raised bed, 3'x16', full of red and yellow onions, bulbing up nicely. The trick of selecting for the smallest sets really worked...I had maybe only 8 that went to seed on me.

Peas are finishing up in this bed (other half is more onions) and there are peanuts just coming up in the front row. Monstrous horseradish plant and two more rhubarb to the back. (Chicken tractor is the blue thing.)

Trying container carrots this year. So far so good.
6486_imgp3507_web.jpg

Only ONE pear set on my Ayer's pear tree. It's on it's 3rd year now.
6486_imgp3538_web.jpg

However, my Brown Turkey fig is loaded! It's on it's second year and DD and I counted 38 figs!
6486_imgp3499_web.jpg

Kitchen herb garden...have greek oregano, dill, sage, cilantro and borage in there so far (and some random flowers.) Still more room to plant. The honeysuckle vine blooming on the fence...that is my favorite perennial ever. The hummingbirds LOVE it.

I am very happy with my blueberries! This is one of 4 bushes I planted (3 last year, and 1 the year before) and it is on it's first bearing year. If you want something low maintenance/high yield...try blueberries. A couple of years from now, I may have to SELL blueberries. I can't believe how loaded they all were.

Sorry for so many pics, but I have stuff planted all over my one acre. :tools There were a couple more of flowers/bees/chickens...but I'll put them in a separate thread. :bee

Your place looks great Journey! I want to plant blueberries someday. How in the world do you keep the deer out of your garden?? My fence has to be 8' high, or they would clean me out.
