Hey Cat when do you plant your snap peas? I did them last year and was too late getting them in and they didn't do much.

Supposedly you can begin to plant them in March but you run the risk of the seeds rotting and they are expensive. I have planted them under plastic and they end up just a week ahead of the later planted peas.Plants grow when the soil temp is just right. Not a straight answer you say. That is because there really isn't one. We have learned to play it by ear as each year is so different. We have rich sandy soil. If it is too wet to till it is too soon to plant. We planted them in late April and it turned out to be a perfect time. They are peaking now but, one week of blistery heat will complete their season. As soon as it is OK to till it is OK to plant the cool weather crops. Our onions and broccoli went in very early May and are also doing well. I plan to plant pole beans when they are done. I have not had any luck will fall peas.

it has rained here everyday for almost 2 weeks now from a light shower to down right bottom falling out
took the dogs for our morning walk and checked the onions 3/4 were ready so just pulled everyone.
have them hanging up in the barn with fans on them. thank goodness have no wood working projects planned..

the cucumbers have been happy with rain we have been picking every other day
dw has been making freezer pickles and today she made the first batch of bread and butter pickles mainly with the ones we somehow miss..

lost a tomato plant the other day, but we did harvest the green ones and had fried green tomatoes
worked out great, perfect bite size....

and the best part our first 5 ripe tomatoes.

Nice harvest major. Will you be able to use all those onions before they spoil? That sure is a lot of them.

Mary
thank you very much......
well mary in years past we have donated to a woman's shelter near us, but now they are not allowed to receive fresh produce unless it's from a usda approved farm or provider<safety reasons and grant money protocols>
< your government at work>
but not to worry a good friend of ours is going in for back surgery, and who knows how long she will be out for. married with 2 children, so we are going to give them a good portion and the other we will use, and a portion that comes out of the gardens as well will go to them.

Major, you can always chop and dehydrate the extra onions. I like to do that with the smaller ones or those that tried to go to seed, since they won't keep as long anyway. I love how it saves me prep time when cooking later!

I am close to pulling mine here soon too. The wind blew the tops over, but they are still green for now.

My raised bed potatoes look like they've gotten the late blight. :( We've had sooo much rain here lately. It just won't stop... We're on tap for more every day clear through to NEXT Friday, so far as they can tell. The weeds are getting way ahead of me too, since I can't step foot in the muddy garden. My row of potatoes in the main garden still look great, green and growing. I'm pretty sure it's the late blight on the others. The tips of the leaves are brown and burned looking on those. I had such high hopes for a big harvest on that patch too. :/
