Oh No!

This news program claims that Mercury Plunged (link)!

That may mean that it is underwater! But, if it was anywhere around here, it may have had to break the ice to get there. The Moon is shining brightly but only in its first quarter. I can see its entire circumference easily. I wonder which part is the cheese . . ? Probably frozen by now, too!

Uh oh.

Just seeing that wind is picking up in Sandpoint, a little nearer the Canadian bbbborder!

20mph gusts will soon have wind chill down into double digitS' below zero.

Here is the US Weather Hazards Map: www.nws.noaa.gov/largemap.php

Oh! thanks for reminding me to check the sky! It's clouding up! Best tarp my wood and lawn tractor!

Hay Digit! I'm gonna mail you some bean seeds. Send your address in a pm. Got just the things that'll look good next to your soldier beans!

You know, Marshall, I'd planned on having the Hutterite beans but didn't put together an order from Fedco for the 1st time in a few years. Hadn't thought that I'd do that but I did .. . or, didn't :p.

Also, the bulk food outfit (Purcell Mountain) up there near the bbbborder, actually the MT border ;), never had any in stock this year.

Clouding up here too, why - I don't know. Wind beginning to build! I got a couple of bath towels out of the washer and out on the line. Had my hoodie up and ran into them on the way back from the garage. Hurt my head!

Adding hutterite to your list right now. Good variety! Mine are from 2 separate and ever so slightly different accessions. So some may grow short good runners maybe 3 foot high. If you see some doing that just plunk in a stick or let it drape over the other plants.

That Venus is lovely!

"Venus reaches her greatest brilliancy this week, glowing at a dazzling -4.9 magnitude in the southwestern sky during the early evening hours." Naval Observatory, the Sky this Week (link)

Just Huge! I didn't see the moon until too late last night to notice Venus so close. Tonight, the waxing moon is just a little further away but the sky is mostly clear there in the Southwest. Venus!

The Navy says sunset is earliest this week for the year: 4:46 pm EST in Washington DC. I wish it was so late here . . . 3:58pm all the way until the 16th . . . I just left and returned from a trip shopping. DW said there was more than 1 place she'd like to go. I said, "Why not? It is 3:30 we've got like 10 minutes before sunset." Surprising how difficult it is for some folks to turn their headlights on before 4:30!

That's another thing about my Subaru :) It has a driving lights on mode. I use it with the driving lights, rain er shine, dark er light.

Venus won't be shining through these clouds.

Back around 1971, when I had awesome eyes, sighz, I was able to see Venus during daytime. Some youngsters living where the sky is clear might be able to also on this go around. Trick is knowing where it'll be.

Oookaaay . . .

For me, Venus rises at 10:26am and sets at 6:46pm.

Soooo, it is up for about 8hrs & 20min. Which means . . . 4hrs & 10min after rising it is due south and close to following the sun's path. Ummm . . . so, 2:35pm it is S on your compass. I'd guess you could point at the southern horizon, raise your finger about 24 inches or a little more (depending how far south you are), and it would be right there - at the end of your finger. 2:35pm.
