At the risk of tempting fate, I'd have to say that the winter here has been surprisingly uneventful so far. The heavy snows have all gone North or South of us. We just had an intense snow squall blow through though, the first weather alert I've received on the phone in a long time. I was driving back from out of town when the alert was issued, and fortunately was able to outrun the storm & stay just ahead of it until I got home. Snow plows were waiting on the highway ramps, flashers on.

Really strong winds behind it though; they knocked my trash bins over (but not up in the air) and the wind is whistling through the window cracks as I type this. Tough weather for those driving semi trailers, and for those around them. Temps diving down from 33 F. when I got home, to close to 0 F. degrees overnight. Brrrr....:cool:

yes a cold and windy night here too. snow wasn't too much to shovel today. sun was out and i had to force myself to stop so Mom would have some to do. she likes the exercise too so we have to share. :) snow and wind tomorrow. not much i don't think. most of it went south of us yesterday. always looks better with some white snow cover especially when it gets beat up by all the deer scuffling around out there and bedding down.

@Marie2020 ,

I saw a news video from the UK of a large garbage bin being lifted up by powerful, swirling winds. It was lifted higher than the houses and was carried over one house, perhaps to be dumped in a backyard or carried even further.

Steve
I can believe that. A few years ago there was garbage bins everywhere and the bus driver had to move them off the road

This last one hit the northern 2 counties hard (Luckily I’m in 3rd county down and just 3”). County south of me had 1” but little more ice.

Largest problem is the 2-3” of rain on frozen ground-no place for water to go. Winter wheat will be be torn up in favor of anything else.

cold, sunny and windy now. shovelled some windblown snow so that if my brother was going to stop over for lunch he'd not pack the snow down into ice. turns out he's not coming today but tomorrow instead and tomorrow is supposed to be above freezing so there's no problem there now.

i took a shower and shaved and even put on jeans for a change. all dressed up and nowhere to go. :)
