tomorrow morning i will have to face the music, errrr, snow... it has to be shovelled. i decided that today's blowing wind wasn't going to accomplish much other than making it really pointless to go out tonight the wind is supposed to calm down, but the temperature is also going down to about 8F. so i trade no wind and colder for more wind and windchill.

good thing i have boots, coat, gloves, proper hat and scarfs that will layer so thick it will be like breathing warm air. my lungs and sinuses cannot do very well if they get too cold.

The slightest covering of snow. I can still see grass where I shoveled out paths earlier –– supposed to continue sprinkling down, for days.

So unusual to wake up to the warmth of 24-25 degrees F (-4°C). I was thinking from seeing @Carol Dee 's post in the Humor thread and @Dahia 's response how I sowed all sorts of seeds on 13 Feb one year. I had only the cool room, indoor windows in that house to grow the plants so i thought that an early start would be okay. It was below zero those mornings and the cold/cool weeks continued so long that it was crazy to have done that, for multiple reasons. This year, maybe it would work but i doubt it.

with the furnace going out we mostly used electricity to keep warm during the past week and a half or so. the bill looks like about $60 extra. i told Mom that if she wanted $ to help paying for it she can have it. we both chipped half in for the furnace. $60 is peanuts compared. shhh! don't tell anyone that peanuts and peanut butter are still a good deal at the store or we'll have a run on those. also had a good deal on Spaghetti-O's and Meat Balls. yes i will eat them once in a while or plain ones. sometimes food is just fuel and i don't much care what it is - so if i'm hungry probably not a good idea to turn your back to me or at least be ready to toss a can of sardines over your shoulder...

snow shovelling was good exercise this morning. took about the time i estimated. could have been worse but i think the wind blew away a thousand lbs of it out towards the end and the snowplow did not stack up too much wet stuff to freeze so i was able to get that out of the way without beating it up with a different shovel.

We've been spoiled by several weeks of bright sunny weather, however later today the rain will return. Much warmer temperatures are in the forecast too, so what's left of the snow will finally melt away. Once it does I expect that the garlic will burst into fresh green growth.

Nope, nada you’ll never catch this gardener snow shoveling…. I save back breaking work to scoop the stalls and gardening. Besides I’ll save the heavy lifting for the snow blower. 👍

i push it most of the time, but it looks like the next three days i will be out doing the same thing.

Mom decided a few weeks ago that we'd schedule taking dinner to a friend's place tomorrow. looking at the weather forecast i'd much rather stay in *sigh* it's winter. don't schedule things in the winter... i really want to be out in 35mph gusts and snow coming down and probably not very clear roads.

DD was asking about the snowblower use and I told her that having no more than 2" at a time to shovel, it is not worth the effort to bring it out of the garage. I didn't use the snow blower last Winter, either.

I refer to the building as the garage but the previous owner put a wood floor in it and a carport on the side. Then, the driveway to this back-of-the-lot structure became unused, leveled and converted to lawn. This happened sometime during the 60 years that this couple lived here. That was fine with new owner me and now, I have converted part of it to garden beds :).

Nevertheless, the "garage" is my storage location. Snowstorm, I have to shovel my way to the garage. Then, it is slightly uphill over lawngrass to reach the "parking location" on the otherside of the gate. The snowblower has no respect for the grass and tears into it. Once out on the concrete sidewalk and walkway to the front door, it does fine but I have to bully more than half the way over the lawn to arrive there.

Different locations have different storm conditions and, yes, we sometimes have 6-8 inches of snow at once but I'm not sure that we even had 2" with that first February snowfall. There's now about 8" on the ground and tonight, more is predicted. Maybe it will make bringing out the snowblower worth the bother. Sunday afternoon, with the storm, the temperature may rise above freezing for the first time in 14 days.
