Good idea, bobm, and one I never gave a thought to. I figure making more trips means a greater chance of falling on the icy snow cover from a few weeks ago. With a little more thought it just might work if I can still carry all the smaller containers in the sled at one time. Hum-m-m-m.

I sure do love this site. I can see bobm's idea as a great option.

Red ... how about dividing the 2 50 lb sacs of chicken feed into smaller containers before you tote them ? That should save lots of aches and pains !

Another cool addition to the farm would be a dolly. There are so, so many uses for a dolly and this would be one I'd use it for. As my body starts to set limits, I have to look for more and more ways to expand those limits and assisting devises are one of them.

I have a small dolly that I welded on a fairly large bottom plate on and a refrigerator dolly that I use to move large cargo. The problem with them is that their wheels are too small to navigate in moist / wet soils. I also use a wheelbarrow for most of my moving things around as we rarely get any snow for a sled being of much use.

We use these workhorses all year round, but they really come into use carting the wood up our ramp and into the cabin. The high wheels are good for snowy, muddy terrain. I like these better than the wheelbarrow also, as one can push or pull them and don't have to worry about balancing heavy loads on a single wheel.

I have a cart like Beekisssed's picture. I love it.
And Red, I just save the empty bag from the chicken feed, use a large scoop or big coffee can, and scoop half a 50 lb bag into the empty one. 25lb is twice as easy to carry as 50lb. I can get the big bag out of the car trunk--barely--but then I leave it standing in the driveway while I open it and divide it up.
Not too many years I carried 50 lb bags up and down stairs with ease, but not any more.

this is the one i have been using for many years. it is good for most of the year but in winter it doesn't seem to move so well in the snow. i roll it up behind my car when i need to offload the chicken supplies and roll it down to the coop. it's been used to haul wood, dirt, rocks, manure/shavings to the gardens and of course plants. i have yet to hook it up to the lawn mower but i should do that to lessen the stress on my back & body.

In the summer I often use an old STEP TWO wagon once used to tote the grands through the zoo. I even have a wagon attachment behind the wagon for when I pulled all three of the older ones.

Most of the time I use the lawn tractor cart. This cart is my go to work horse for hauling. Not only is it a dumper, but it has easily removable sides. The cart is at least 51 years old and still on its original tires. Can we say they don't make tires like they used to?
