In years past we used to party New year's Eve but no more, and fireworks have been banned in our city due to too many accidents. Years ago our neighbor who has passed on used to open his front door and let go with his shotgun at midnight. We do have a big fireworks event the 24th of May and on Bathtub weekend tho, we usually head out to see those.
Last night DH and I had our usual cracked crab and caesar salad accompanied with crusty rolls for dinner, just the two of us at the table making a mess, and of course we cracked a bottle of wine to go with the pig out. Then it was curl up in front of the TV and watch some old 'Thin Man' movies, in bed before 11.
Today it's the annual new Year's Beef Dip, I make all the fixings but then take it over to our daughters place, I do the cooking they do the cleanup, I'm getting smart in my old age :). I use to host it but have wiggled out of it the last couple of years.
Yesterday I cooked a 9 lb. Baron of Beef, made the dip with the pan drippings which turned out yummy even if I say so myself. I made a frozen lemon mousse the day before and this afternoon before we head out I'll make the salads, a caesar and a cucumber, sweet onion, and shrimp with big chunks of feta cheese. The dressing, a light olive oil and wine with a bit of finely chopped oregano. They supply the buns.
Tomorrow the tree comes down, always glad when this last bit is done, that means gardening season is just around the corner :). Happy New Year everyone, hope you all have a goodun.

All we had here for New Year's dinner was a standing rib roast with smashed spuds, steamed broccoli, and a yummy wine. With the roast beast I figured I didn't need lots of food choices. Everyone agreed -- they came for the roast and family. M-m-m, tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked on the rotisserie.

Our traditional New Years eve was spent at home with our girls. One left around 9 to be with her boyfriend then there were 3. We had sweet n sour meatballs, pigs in a blanket crackers, cheese and pepperoni, and chips. we were in bed by 1-1:30 at the latest. New years is our junk food night :D plus all the cookies and candies from christmas. Today all the decorations inside came down. I found some strays that I didnt see and will be put in a box tomorrow.
