Last night I stop at supermarket on way to country house to pick up groceries. When I started unpacking I notice nothing in freezer was frozen, when I check fridge side that wasn't cold either. Lights where working on both side so I know not blown fuse. Maytag side by side 15 years old time to call repairman or time to fridge shop.

I never vacuumed under it is built into kitchen cabinets. Last night I turned both freezer and fridge to 10 this morning still not cold. I had a really hard time finding this one. All the side by sides have ice marker and water on outside door. I wanted side by side without, I don't drink my well water.

Alex, My mother purchased a Sears refrigerator in 1949 built in the USA. The only repair or service was to replace the brocken handle 5 years ago. Currently it is in my brother's garage , still keeping his beer cold just like from day one for my mother. Today's refregerators are built to be operational for 5 +/- years. The sellers always try to sell you a repair warranty when you purchase a new one for about 1/3 of the purchase price. more often than not, the repair will cost almost as much as a new refrigerator and since the parts are made in China, your guess is as good as mine how soon the refrigerator will need another repair . So ... :caf

Is the compressor running? Is it running all the time? Is the light on when you open the door?

Even built ins have condensers that should be cleaned now and then. A condenser is like a cooling tubes, they can be vacuumed or brushed.

the built in should be able to be pulled out from the wall to service it. the person who built the area for it should have left enough room to let air circulate behind it so it can dissipate the heat coming from the compressor. the compressor can work over-time if it doesn't have that space since it would get really warm.

when @digitS' & others talk about using the top of the fridge to start veggies it is because the fridge can put out a lot of heat & that is the direction most heat will go.
