Red dirt is all around us. There is a pocket of maybe 1,000 acres or less of what is known around here as sugar sand. We have 8 acres of it. I really didn't want red dirt, we have a pure white, blue eyed Quarter Horse, Joe, who is 29 years old. White horses that roll in red dirt are orange!

Haha! Our horse is an 18 year old "sorrel/chestnut" mare. She rolls around and it just blends in except for her mane. It's flax colored and looks reddish blonde.

We've put the goats in the garden for now. Trying to encourage my doe to eat some. This heat has her sickish so we are on the way to get her some electrolytes and it's bolus time.... They should poop out some good fertilizer while in there. Next is the pigs and chickens. It's pretty much done for the year and we have so many animal projects that I can't really baby what's left at the time being. But I scored a bunch of cardboard (not near as much as Bay) to prep the garden for the next year!

I would like to rebuild or dinky porch to include some built in planter boxes for my herbs.

I was in the garden at 6:30 this morning. I watered the corn, cucumbers and zucchini. Then I picked purple hull peas. I got 2 wash pans full. We shelled peas and got 9 pounds of shelled peas. I put 8 bags of 2 cups each in the freezer, plus some for tonight.

That sounds like a nice haul.

I hit the pea patch at 8:00 this morning until 11:30. I picked two wash pans heaping full plus a basket. We shelled them out and got 14 pounds. DH sold two bushels to the Feed store man for $35 a bushel. So we’ll take him bushel #1 tomorrow, then go to Outback Steakhouse. LOL The grass and weeds are lush and beautiful!

I am dumbfounded on the price of shelled peas. Purple hull peas sell for $45-$65 a bushel in Tyler. A plant nursery we stopped at sells 15 bags for $70. I think next year we might put in a bigger pea patch! That is, if I can survive staying bent over to pick them! Somebody needs to “bless MY lil’ ol’ pea pickin’ heart!
