have always liked the idea of a central vacuum system. the other day was vacuuming the bedroom and the sun was perfect saw that the upright vacuum was leaking. cleaned and new filters installed less than a week ago...
has anyone had an central system installed or know anyone who has one.

looking for any pros or cons of them.

I really like the idea of the whole house vacuum system too. I either need a new upright or have this one FIXED.

I have one. We put it in when we built the house. The newer ones have floor outlets so you can sweep the kitchen floor crumbs right into the system.

I have a Nutone. It's been working well for the past 40 years with no problems other than a once a year cleaning out of the traps (I have 3) and dumping the canister when it gets full.

Since mine is in the basement, there is very little noise when operating the vac. I did need to replace the beater head a couple of years ago, but considering how many vacuums I could have gone through in 40 years, I've been pleased with mine.

Over the years I have gotten rid of many carpets, but the vac still works better under the beds than a mop would.

@baymule I am about 1/2 carpet. (upstairs) and all wood laminate and tile on 1st floor. Still would love to have one. As @Chickie'sMomaInNH said. They are good for pet hair and dirt. I hate sweeping dog hair. Never feels like I get it all or just move it around.

I used to clean a house that has the whole house system - LOVED IT!!! I've never used an upright that had the same power.

Warning about a Roomba - my SIL cleans a house that has one and she had a TERRIBLE mess to clean up one day. Their little dog had had diah. and the Roomba had run through it, then smeared it all over the floor.
(but I'm still hoping to get one once I've gotten rid of my carpets).
