I will not buy another Roomba until they are bombproof! I deSTROYED the one I bought a decade ago, and they are pretty expensive. No, but how about one of those Roomba things? My step daughter has one and they like it a lot.
It's hard to recommend a good sweeper. I own an Electrolux, but they have been bought out since then, and I think they are still pretty good, but not sure about the new ones. I cannot get near water or talcom powder with it, including those powders people shake onto their carpets, or I will kill it. Rainbows are still pretty good, I hear. BOTH, 10 years ago were pricey sweepers. Dyson should be avoided, and the Bissell that my DD's own won't pick up cat hair like my Electrolux, hence they borrowed MY sweeper to de-cat their place prior to Easter. (My SIL is allergic to cat dander.) Fortunately, the cat was saved by OUR cat when tiny and OUR cat taught him litter and claw manners, so no ripped furniture or pee/poo in the corners to stink up their place.
What you do NOT want is a sweeper that behaves like a cheap shop vac. After I use my shop vac, there is a layer of dust hovering in the air.
When I sweep my carpet, it is softer afterwards, hence a pretty good clean.
I'm not good at following directions. If you go with a house vac or any other, and pay a lot for it, make sure that you follow maintenance directions so that it lasts.
Most people get by with a Dirt Devil, and keep replacing it. I hope to not buy another sweeper, which is how Electrolux used to advertise theirs, as good for at least 20 years.
