What is your favorite ice-cream flavor? Mine has always been mint n chip!
It varies from place to place. Back when I was much younger it's was Capogiro's Chiccolato Scuro (Dark Chocolate) gelato, which was basically frozen truffle insides (it was so thick you could melt it re-freeze it, and it wouldn't crystalize.) But Capogiro folded its doors ten or so years back, and I have yet to find an equivalent (plus, now most chocolate ice cream is ruined for me.)

If I can get it, I like rose petal (Ciao Bella in NYC used to sometimes have it, if one of the Persian restaurants gave a short on their order.) But that is hard to find (Rose Kulfi (Indian Ice Cream) is pretty common, but I don't like the texture of that (it's gummy) nor the basil seeds they add to it for crunch.

At the moment, is sort of depends on where I am at the time. There's a place a bit away from me that makes a Garden Mint chip both I and my sister are quite fond of (I'm planning to go and see if I can get some on Thursday; they rotate flavors, so there's no guarantee.)

A small Mediterranean cafe we often stop by has a really good vanilla (tastes of actual vanilla extract) and a pretty good Stracciatella (basically sweetened milk with chocolate chips), but both are really expensive ($8 wouldn't be out of the reasonable range for a pint, but there's are more like a cup.)

There's also a pizza place I know that makes their own of which I think the peach and the salted caramel are pretty decent (their salted caramel is actually restrained, so it isn't as cloyingly sweet as most).

Oh and if you do like Mint Chocolate chip, if you are ever in the Ithaca area of New York (or know someone going to Cornell who can do a refrigerated package) you might like to try the Cornell Dairy's version (not only is the color a bit off the beat (it's blue, not green) but the chocolate chips are salty. (Just DON'T every try the green tea one, unless you REALLY like the taste of jasmine.)

There WERE some other mint I could have reccomended (Just mint, when I can get it so, I actually prefer it WITHOUT the chips) Ciao Bella (the same people who did the rose petal) sometimes ran out of chips and did a straight mint (technically, since the mint chocolate chip is a standard flavor, you might find pre-packed pints at a local grocery store, I think they do export) There was also Il Labritorio de Gelati, with their odd containers (looked like margarine tubs) but I think they are out of business. The Chinatown Ice cream company makes a nice green tea (but then again Madea-En makes a nice green tea ice cream, and you can pick up a pint of that at pretty much any Asian supermarket.) Egg ice cream might still be in business (with their color changing blue to purple ice cream done with butterfly pea flower powder) but as I haven't been in the city for several years now, it's hard to say.

I'm testing a new place on Friday maybe (especially if I CAN'T get the Garden Mint on Thursday), since I'll have to pass by it anyway. And there's a place I know of over the bridge, if I can delay until late enough in the day (they don't open until 2:30PM, and are closed completely except in the summer.)

How interesting about the ice-cream that changes from blue to purple!! I'd love to serve some of that at a party! The guests would wonder if they drank too much!

That tricks actually pretty easy to do, if you know how to make ice cream at home, anyone can do it. All you have to do is add butterfly pea flower powder (you can get that online now) to the ice cream base, and the ice cream becomes light blue. To change it to purple, just pour something acidic (like lemon juice) over it. It's basically the same PH experiment you did in science class with red cabbage juice; just on the other end of the spectrum (i.e. in that, you started with the purple cabbage juice and then turned it blue by adding something alkali. Milk is already slightly alkali, so it's already skewed a bit on that side.

Just don't try it with ice milk, lemon juice is more than acidic enough to curdle milk (actually, so is the carbonic acid created by adding CO2 to water to make seltzer or the base of soda, which is why an ice cream soda or root beer float will curdle if you leave it sitting undrunk for an hour or two.)

When I flew into NYC in 1944 the guy down there with the handcart on the corner had some blueberry -- really tasty!

(Actually, it was nearly 30 years later than that and I arrived over the George Washington Bridge ;).)

Once (just once) I found a place in Greenwich village that had a goats milk ice cream flavored with violet. I'd love to get my hands on that again.

Ditto the sheep's milk lavender that I had at an antique fair. Though, technically, I only got half of that (my sister was having a hard time that day, and it was super hot, so my parents asked me to go back and see if I could get some more (I'd gotten the first cup myself) Seeing how long the line was, and worrying they would be sold out by the time I got to the front, I gave my sister what was left of mine to make sure she got SOMETHING. At the time, I didn't think it was that big a deal (I mean I wound up getting one and a half cups of ice cream, since they still had the other flavor (orange bergamot) when I got to the front, so I was able to get a cup for both of us. But my parents never stop reminding me of how kind, generous and selfless I was, which frankly embarrasses me quite a bit (since I fell that, if you CAN do something to help someone, you are OBLIGATED to, regardless of the cost to yourself.)

I like pickles, okay.

I enjoyed some ice cream after lunch.

what kind? :)

i'm being nosy...

But, I don't think that I will be eating them together anytime soon.

;)

me either. i like dill more than the pickles, but at times the pickles are exactly what i want, like in tartar sauce for fried fish.
