You have a neighbor from England in Idaho, @Gardening with Rabbits ? Makes me think of the Black guy in PF who actually ran for public office. (He may be going to jail after his trial.)

Well, there's that anise hyssop that I will be starting soon - "Horse" mint, @Pulsegleaner ?

Steve
I have not heard of a black guy running for office or having a trial?? I did have a neighbor from England. He lived in the house where the chicken man lived lol. The man with the chickens and rabbits and moved away and left me the rabbit nightmare. The Englishman moved last summer to warmer climate. Everything in England is better. Their beef tastes better than our beef. LOL The fish in the ocean are not the same as the fish in the ocean close to England. He was fun to visit with. He was hard to understand and I did a lot of nodding and smiling and hope I was smiling at the right things. Last night Evelyn was coloring and said I THOUGHT she said YUCK and I said YUCK and DS said she said LOOK and I quickly said PRETTY. LOL Oh and adding I did have an anise hyssop plant once. It was beautiful and smelled so good and bees loved it.

a little frustrating. Melons! After the abundance in 2021, I may not be able to find seed for some favorites ....
Weelll, besides a first-time order of several packets of Amazon seed - I ordered some melon seed from Walmart!

Never, ever even considered doing something like that in the past ...

They have a few varieties of Harris seed. The Harris Seed Company has been an important source in the past for me. Johnny's has been where I've bought those galia melon seeds each year, I think. I did look at Harris before I went to Wally World but might have searched for Diplomat Galia instead of Passport, or vice versa. Honestly, they both grow very well for me and I CANNOT recognise a difference between them ... altho I haven't grown them both in the same year.

I do still have 2021 Visa galia seed but wasn't very impressed with it in comparison. Not bad, however. A little galia research turned up some interesting information. It looks like about a half dozen varieties of those melons were introduced and then failed to attract buyers. I think that I may know why: it's the ripe, juicy galia that is flavorful. Passport and Diplomat must be very poor shippers. Visa might do better and just might be what I found in the soopermarket, last summer. Never before have I seen a galia in the produce aisle!

Something that I appreciate greatly about those melons is that they can tough out our erratic late spring weather. The early cantaloupe Goddess even failed one year. Ya know, it takes very dire circumstances to stand in the way of a Goddess!

Exhausted. Why are there still this mountain of boxes? Got flatbed unloaded yesterday and finished unloading cargo trailer. Actually cooked a meal, my canned green beans and frozen cream corn were so good. Got a small pen built for Trip and Carson, we’ll work on sheep pens today. Got to get my animals!

I’m moved out of Lindale house and into Groveton house. Still have outside stuff, Kawasaki mule, tractor, implements and so on. Dogs and sheep still there, neighbor is caring for them. Ridgetop and her husband from BYH will be here until February 28, when they leave to go home to California. What good friends! I am Blessed.

@baymule , maybe you will be allowed February 29, 30 & 31 to rest up. (Oh, thanks ALOT digitS'!) Try to find those moments of the days ahead when you can just allow responsibilities to drop off your shoulders. And, leave any thoughts of them on the nightstand when you crawl into bed.

Finished my breakfast oatmeal, tangelo and now on to a cup of herbal tea (with tangerine peal etc).

I did some Wikipedia reading about citrus fruits. Tangerines and Mandarin oranges are very closely related. The tangelo is a hybrid with grapefruit or pomelo. I have no ideas about pomelos.

DW doesn't eat the tangelos so I'd better stay on the ones that she bought. Easy enough, although I'm really inclined to eat them one section at a time between big spoonfuls of oatmeal ;).

Steve, do you remember the melon seeds you sent me a few years ago? I planted them in a pot and they grew and had tons of melons the size of peas. Then the plant just froze in time and nothing else happened. I've always wanted to try them in the ground to see how they would do. I believe they were either Galia or Passport?

@ninnymary , a Passport is a galia melon. Johnny's only has VERY large packets of seeds altho they say that they expect to have smaller packet by mid-April. The seeds from Walmart/Harris are only 25 seeds. This is one with free delivery so I imagine that it's in their stores. When I have ordered from Harris in the past - they have had not just a shipping/minimum order cost but a handling charge.

The Walmart seeds haven't arrived but I had to be a bit careful in my order. Like Amazon, there are a number of subcontractors (or whatever we call them). Some charge shipping and it can be for more than the cost of a packet! If you don't find Passport seed immediately, I would be happy send you some, just let me know.

I had a lot on the east side of the house, but it got the west sun. After DH got sick, I just abandoned this area that I had called the new herb garden. I had a lot of stuff in there. After 1 year the chocolate and apple mint was still there and then without watering much and weeds, the next year most was gone. The south herb garden got more water and over time I have pulled a lot of the mint out and weeds and put in flowers. The pineapple left and the chocolate, but I still have apple, spearmint and peppermint. Lots of watering here and gets shade. I planted a lot of flowers last year in there and it will be interesting to see how much mint survives.
Funny, the mint didn't spread to my "herb garden", really and oregano garden, but I will Take that.
Hopefully, I can grow other herbs there this year.
My spade is Still my favorite gardening tool.

Good Morning.

Crazy weather. Probably 2" of snow (there has now been snow in the yard since 16 December). There were no problems moving this small amount since there is only a little of the old snow, frozen and in shady areas.

The problem today is the morning commute for drivers. The road crews can spread some salt if they can get to it quickly; temperatures are already dropping and should be approach 0°f (-18°C overnight). Additional problem is the wind coming up. Nearest airport already has 3/4 mile visibility. It will be whiteOUT conditions on the highways in the more open areas with this snow falling and blowing.

Two important appointments this week but we should be able to poopsiedoodle those miles given some prep time and caution.
