Having coffee now. Not a good morning. We had to put our cat Mister to sleep yesterday. he was 16 and my last outside garden helper. I am pretty good, but worried a bit about our other cat Blinky. He is 13 and has known Mister his whole life and they were great buddies. Our whole routine is messed up. He has never ate without Mister, so I did not all Mister like I usually do and he was confused about eating. He is lying by the patio door and hopefully not waiting for Mister. DS was only about 7 years old when Mister showed up as a stray kitten. He is taking it okay. We have known for over a year that it could be anytime with this cat. He had diabetes and just was not doing good.
That is a long life, a testament to the love and care Mister received. 16 years carries a lot of family history. Our beloved pets leave us far too soon. Poor Binky, he doesn’t understand and there is no way to explain it to him. Sending you a big hug.

I am having my coffee. DD and kids might come over later. Blinky is doing okay. I think he has had this last year to have changes where it is not so bad. He has not been able to play with Mister for over a year, maybe 2. Mister just because basically feeble, so a lot of things changed. Blinky himself is changing since he is almost 13. He may have slight hearing loss. He seems fine today.

We had the first ripe Roma tomato for supper last night.

Yes, 16 years is a long time. He was almost just a pest when he was younger. I had to get rid of all the bird feeders. He killed so many birds. He was very independent. He had a routine and nobody was going to stop him. He used to be outside during the day until that man moved in that dumped the rabbits. Something happened where Mister was afraid to go out during the day and so he started sleeping all day and as soon as it got dark he started his fun. In the winter he had to stay in but it was hard to keep him in. He really had a great life for a cat. Thank you for the hug!

@Gardening with Rabbits there are so many kitties that need a good home that you could probably find an older one pretty quick. hopefully one would be ok and get along with Blinky.
We decided to wait and someday when Blinky is gone we will go to the animal shelter and get probably 2 kittens. It would be just too quiet here without a cat. Blinky came from the animal shelter. We got him after our cat Flower had to be put to sleep. Mister was the only cat left and he was not a lap cat, so I wanted a cat that liked to be held. We got Blinky and he was just a few weeks old and I saw this other adult female tabby cat and decided I wanted her too.. She was not a good choice. LOL Blinky and Mister did not like her. She was kind of odd. DS was really fond of her, so it was sad when she had to be put to sleep a few years ago. She was very old too.

And, that moon was still quite high in the SW sky when I looked up this morning.

Cream of Wheat with Galia melon for breakfast -- the honey sweetening the hot cereal was a perfect compliment for the sweetness of the melon.

We can probably eat 5 or so melons each week. It was a little surprising that there were only 2 ripe last week and 2 on Monday. Neither of Monday's were cantaloupe. What I'm concerned about is that they will come on in an avalanche, soon!

Not that we should have much trouble finding families to give them to ... should install a speaker to play music on the truck. I'm thinking of calling it "the little brown jug."

🎼 The rose is red, my nose is too,
The violets blue and so are you;
And yet, I guess, before I stop,
We'd better make another drop.

Ha, Ha, Ha!
🎶
Melons, Melons!

So very sorry for your loss. I hope that Blinky will be OK. (Neither one of my 2 dogs is good with cats, so after my last old-timer passed on, I resigned myself to a cat-less existence, but it leaves a big hole in my life.)
