I did get several blue plastic 55 gallon drums from a company that cleaned the inside of milk trucks so the chemicals were food grade. They had to pay a hazardous waste fee to have the drums removed so they were happy I took what they had.

I don't know if they are still free.

I saw some white 5 gallon (with lids $1.25 extra) for $2.99 today at my farm store. I didn't think it was all that bad a price. (But with DH tagging along I decided to leave the pails for another day.)
