It took FOREVER for them to do anything. They even flowered long before I got any eggplants. Now they just wont quit sprouting egg plants.

That's what mine did. I only have 2 plants altogether and right now they have 8 eggplants in various stages of being ready with a lot of new buds coming on. I'm looking for neighbors that like eggplant.

I "harvested" one last night and grilled it. It was delicious.

I have two tiny eggplants :) very tiny I just found them because I could not stand not looking anymore!!!!

(I was giving them some privacy)

perhaps our 102F is good for them

these flowered longer than any other flower I have ever seen in my life!!! I am stunned how long they lasted I am considering them for a landscape plant next year as they were quite pretty!

I bought an eggplant today. It was pretty leggy and had three cute little eggplants on it. I transplanted with some rabbit poop. I have a pretty long season so they are supposed to produce into september/october

Im trying some Lavender aubergine, this season. Although, as with all such plants except for tomatoes, I have a devil of a time getting them to sprout.
OH PICTURES PLEASE :)

eggplants are seriously one of my favorite vegetables ..the way they look ..all the types ....colors the shape is just downright sexy..and they have no freaking nutrition!!!

how could something so beatiful and tasty not have anything in it????

this is just tragic to me

all the more reason to add tomatoes, herbs, garlic, good olive oil,
the best parm you can find

I am drifting here :)
Just found a book that says eggplant is healthy!! :throw
Sally Fallon's Nourishing Traditions my food bible at the moment says:

Eggplant contains carotenoids, B complex, particularly folic acid, vitamin C, potasium, phosphorus and calcium! It contains some protein and is a good source of fiber. Eggplant contains compounds called scopoletin and scoparone that block convulsions. African folk medicine values the eggplant to relieve nervous excitement and to counteract epilepsy. It is also taken as a natural contraceptive (dont try this at home!). In Korea, dried eggplant is used to treat a variety of illnesses, including measles, alcoholism and stomach cancer.

I was so bummed when I read your link Heidi, because I love eggplant and eat it weekly. I have about 3 left on my plant that I am about to harvest and saute up this weekend with my angle hair pasta! Hope this info pleases the eggplant lovers out there!
