@Chickie'sMomaInNH Monday was not a holiday for us. Kids have been wild all week on the bus and in the lunch room. On Wed. I backed into a mail box. :he MIL had surgery (she is doing fine) Joints have been extra painful. Had to bring in plants as it is to get down to 30 tonight!

sorry to hear @Carol Dee. was that mailbox incident with the bus or your own vehicle?
The bus of course! I had missed a students stop because I was dealing with some unruly behavior! Then turned at next drive to take them home, backing out I hit box. Broke it off cleanly at the base. Grounds crew for school came and fixed in A.M. I owe them Brownies !!! (That is the rule) :p I was really mad at myself, it has been 20 years since I last took off a box.

A mantra I've repeated often over the past 40 years: "God bless bus drivers!" There is no way I could turn my back on a bus full of students and drive anywhere. Standing in front of a whole school with something to say is easy. I fear the students would never make it home because I'd be waiting for quiet before starting (or continuing) to drive.

Every year I did ride along in a bus with my students so I would know where they each lived. I suspect my presence made a difference in 'normal' bus behavior, though.
