Something very similar happened to me a few days ago. While we were driving, a coyote or dog peeled off down the side of the road and then ran a marathon on the highway along the reservoir before turning up the road to Pocantico. Never did figure out what it was in such a hurry for or why it was out in the day (it seemed to be running too healthily to be sick).

''This morning I am driving across a busy, dangerous intersection when I see a dog, a big one, in the middle of the intersection, with cars driving around him, almost hitting him.

''I hit the brakes, jump out and open my back door of the car. I call the dog over, afraid for his safety.

''Then a trucker slows down, rolls his window and says calmly, 'That's a coyote. …' ''

Hahaha! Good one Ridge!

i've only seen coyotes in the daytime here twice in over 20yrs here and both times they were high-tailing it across an open field. i know they are around, just rarely see them.

I understand they can get too 5hick but here when people hunt them, coons, ground hogs, etc explode causing 10X mor damage than coyotes ever do.
