They were just sunbathing but he didn't believe me, he kept saying it looks like your chickens are dying.
hee hee - the first time I saw my pullets sun/dust bathing, I thought they were having a seizure. I know, what a ding dong...

Catalina, your photos are sweet.

Not much to update today -

It's pouring rain and cold, about 45F. I got a few things done this last week when we had a 85F heat spike, even though it was super windy. It was so windy, that some of my seeds blew away when I tried to plant them!

Let's see - Planted swiss chard, lettuce, carrots and onions. Moved in 3 more new beds and planted 2 with potatoes - All Blue, Yukon Gold, Butte and *something* Golden (I forget the name).

Pruned the raspberries and started to tie them up. I'm about 1/4 done with them.

Planted 3 new delphinium.

Weeded and weeded again! This year I will win the battle against crab grass! Also, I see the 'great' compost I have been filling my beds with since last year, is full of thistle. I will now declare war on thistles too!

Ok it was raining, but I still went outside to work :p

I moved and divided 3 huge bleeding hearts, 1 peony, an equinacea, a bunch of monarda (it grows like a weed!), some aquilegia and a clemantis.

I tried to move one of the raspberries that are growing under my fence (and into my neighbor's yard - oops!), but the roots on it are as big around as my finger! So, maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

Also, I couldn't get a good grip on my fork anymore, because my gloves fingers were thick with mud. My boots were too, I was walking around like an astronaut (or a zombie). :th

Sorry, that's funny!!!!

I bet after a good rain the ground and plants were easiest to dig up though. No real hard fight with roots, and less damage.

You is braver then I. :D

Agreed, I only fight off the rain long enough to feed the animals and I'm back in ASAP!

Hi everyone,

It rained heavily yesterday, our first proper wet for well over a month which is unusual for this part of the UK !! The ground certainly needed it. I had just finished weeding the waist-high nettles from amongst my raspberries -- Ouch.......!!!!! So now they will have got a good drink; perfect timing as they are coming up to flowering. If I get a crop like last years I shall be a very happy person :bow

I worked solidly all weekend on my weed & bramble problem. There are still more of them to get rid of but they are in little clumps & easily dealt with. Strangely enough I actually enjoyed getting rid of them. I took it gently but I was determined to get it done before the rain came! I have to be careful as my sight & balance are not wonderful & if I get too hot I pass out --- Hmmm...!! Sounds terrible but I've learnt how to deal with it now, and when to stop for a nice cup of tea !!!

Catalina,

Good for you, working away in the rain. We often have to do this over here, this years drought is very unusual. I often look like a "mud monkey" (my grandmother's name for me when I was a kid)! I love to be out in that that light misty rain especially in the early morning -- there is something magical about it.
The only problem about working in the wet is that it can impact the soil badly. I try to use a plank of wood to tread on. :D

HAPPY GARDENING EVERYONE !
