The Free Dictionary, Word History: The first known occurrence of the word nerd, undefined but illustrated, dates from 1950 and is found in If I Ran the Zoo, a children'sbook by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel). The book's narrator lists various imaginary creatures that he would keep in the zoo if he were allowed to run it, whatever objections other people might raise to his projects: "And then, just to show them, I'll sail to Ka-Troo And Bring Back an It-Kutch a Preep and a Proo A Nerkle a Nerd and a Seersucker, too!" (The nerd is a small humanoid creature looking comically angry.) The next known attestation of nerd appears in the October 8, 1951, issue of Newsweek, in which the slang of American youth is described: "In Detroit, someone who once would be called a drip or a square is now, regrettably, a nerd, or in a less severe case, a scurve."Happy Birthday!!! Celebrate by planting your peas!!!!!!!!
Is it TRUE that Dr. Seuss invented the word, "nerd"?

I wanna come too! Sounds like a great time. Even though I have all the mud and weeds I can play in any time and a Farm and Fleet and Theisen's Farm Supply close by.@Nyboy my dear friend, I think you really need to take a step up in life and shop at Tractor Supply, Rural King or Atwoods, or which ever version of farm store you might have nearby. Then go play in the dirt, get covered in dirt, leaves, grass and have a darn good time. Life is good. Wear your Armani's where that sort of thing counts, but when nobody's looking, slop out and have some fun.
On the designer side, last year we were watching The Voice on TV and Adam Levine was wearing a T-shirt that looked like a really angry pit bull with rabies chewed it up. It had holes in it and Adam looked like a homeless man reject. Blake Shelton made a remark about the T-shirt along the lines that it wasn't fit for wearing and Adam proudly said that he paid $600 for it!
We have a spare bedroom waiting for you if you want to take a fun packed vacation, play-in-the-dirt, drive the tractor, have the $6.50 all inclusive lunch special at Connie's Café, AND we have both Tractor Supply and Atwoods nearby!
