My mom did same to me when I cursed at her. For 2 days everything tasted of soap. The worst part was every time she told a friend or family member about it I was embarrassed. Today that would get you arrested.

@Beekissed ~ Thanks Bee! I'll let you know how the rest of my sunflowers turn out. I do hope I get some red velvet ones. I got the seeds from a seed exchange on FB. So I'll have to wait and see. The chicks are Buff Orps.

@digitS' ~ The ct pumpkins are supposed to be a sweet pumpkin. Similar to cantaloupe, or so I've been told. You can use it like you would regular pumpkin in recipes, or add fruit filling to the pumpkin and bake in the oven. If I get any, I'll let you know.

@Nyboy ~ Good idea about planting sweet smelling flowers around the coop. I may just put out netting like Bee does. Watched a vid from Texas Prepper 2. He puts out netting around his coop & house to catch snakes. Works very well.

@flowerbug ~ For a minute there, I thought I was reading "A Christmas Story"! LOLOL I never did have to eat soap, but I do remember getting my hide tanned a few times. Seems like the looped end of that belt always hit in the exact same spot every time.

I put up 2 quarts of peppers in the freezer. The cucumbers are now in the wb processing. I turned them into bread & butter pickles. At least I hope that is what they turn out to be. That vinegar sure did stink up the house while it was cooking! :sick

I don't think I would want a snake in the freezer. They stink. :sick How long does it take a snake to drown?

oh, i wasn't cursing at Mom i was yelling at my brother. i don't think i've ever cursed at her. around her, yes, she's actually swearing a bit here or there now. i have to get a laugh and call her potty mouth. :)

her weapon of choice was the wooden spoon. yep, she'd be arrested these days. Dad rarely had to be involved and never used a belt, just one whack with the hand on the bottom was enough. it's such a bad habit i try not to, but when i'm tired they sorta slip out...

Mom wasn't ever that accurate with the wooden spoon, but what she lacked in accuracy she made up for in volume...

i love bread and butter pickles. we don't cook them that much, but like a lot of onions in there. just enough heat to get them hot when going into the jars and then a few minutes to process and seal them up. yum yum yum. looks delicious, i want some for breakfast. :)

@flowerbug ~ I hope they taste good. My first time making b&b pickles. How long do you need to leave them before opening up a jar? I need to look that up.

The following will be deja-vu to those who also follow @baymule 's garden post due to me hi-jacking her thread. :\

I'm cooking kohlrabi out of the garden for supper tonight. I tried a piece of the bulb, raw. Reminded me of a radish without the heat. The leaves I chopped up, rinsed and added to the butter, onions and kohl bulb. While they were sitting the colander draining, they smelled like a stale dish cloth.

I'll let ya know how they tasted.

Update #1:

Granddaughter did NOT like it! Daughter liked the greens but not the bulb. I thought it all tasted good. DH has yet to try it since he is working late.

If DH likes it, I may grow more next year. It does take up a bit of room, but grows very well here. I think it looks alien.
