Both turkeys and peafowl are suppose to be great snake killers.

I wouldn't mind having a few turkeys. I would have to change up a few things or else make them their own pen.

Your garden is looking so awesome! We got a sprinkle this evening....needed more! I hope you got a good rain.

Thanks Bay! We got 1/2" of rain last night. Sure was nice.

I picked a mess of turnip greens this morning and fixed them for supper tonight. They were pretty good. Much better than I remembered them being.

My cantaloupes have male flowers blooming. I saw them this morning when I was picking the greens. My Amish paste tomatoes are also blooming. Can't wait to until I have fresh tomatoes again. I have Brandywines planted up by the house. They are just now starting to get bloom buds on them.

Roasted turnips are good. I mix 3 tablespoons olive oil with half teaspoons of oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, basil, salt and pepper. I peel and chunk up the turnips, roll them around in the mix and spread on a cookie sheet. I roast them at 450* for about 20 minutes.

Your turnips sound yummy Bay. If I get any big enough, I'm going to have to try them that way. My purple tops are still doing good, but the other ones have played out with the heat. We have no rain in the forecast until June 15th. It could change before then, I sure hope it does.

My cucumbers & both types of green beans have started blooming. My peppers are producing and I even noticed a couple of tomatoes on my Amish Pastes. Okra is growing good. Looks like every seed sprouted! I started thinning them out this morning.

Thanks Bee! It's turning out better than I thought. With the beds being raised higher than before, it's much easier to work.

Our hay guy told us this evening to start looking for hay. They have had one cutting of hay and should have already done a second cutting. No rain. The grass isn't growing. He said they would haul it for us and store it in their barn, as usual-for a nominal fee. He and his father don't even have enough hay put up for their own cows.

That's not good Bay. Do ya'll use square or round bales? We've only had 1/2" of rain in the last 4 weeks. I've pulled out my 5 gallon buckets to keep the fruit trees & blueberry bushes going. The trees look good, but the blueberry's were showing signs of water stress. I'm glad DH put in my soaker hoses in the garden for me the weekend of Mother's Day. The garden gets watered every 2-3 days, fruits 2x a week.

Pulled up the last of my turnips today. The purple tops did much better than the other variety I planted. I will be planting them again this fall.

I did have a casualty today. One of my eggplants just wilted away. It was fine yesterday.



Now my trellis climbers are doing just fine. My last planting of beans are a little behind. I had to plant that trellis twice before the beans would sprout.



I have tomatoes!!! My Amish Pastes are starting to put out. Looks like my kohlrabi is almost ready to harvest. I planted just 2. I've never had and really don't know how to fix it. Need to look up some recipes.

usually i don't have any trouble getting turnips big enough. some i've had the size of basketballs. i'm the only one that eats them so i don't grow many and often have some left over so they can flower and drop seeds. we really like the yellow flowers.

if you like cabbage, brocolli, etc. they are a mild cabbage flavor (to me).
