Thanks for the complements gang Yes we built the greenhouse ourselves. It is 20 x 32 x12 DH bent the hoops and designed it from the ground up. I am so proud of him he has worked very hard and done a great job. It has been a labor of love row and a large learning experence. DH said he will build me a smaller one just for germanation and propagation. Sorry I hadn't gotten to weed all the lambs quarters out of my raised bed before I took the photo. We plan on mulching around my flowers in the front with the rustic fence so I hope I can get the Creeping Charlie to back off
Thanks for the complements on the apple trees. Last year was the 1st true harvest we had from the Red Delicious and this year the Fugi has many more blooms than last year. I was so happy to see the honey bees on them :bee I hope our blackberries do well this year also.
Purple Strawberry you have a very wonderful looking garden going there. You have put in some work. your plants look Great
Good to hear from ya Backyard. Yeah my baby chicks are growing fast too. What have ya got planted? Nothing better than playing in the dirt except having breakfast served from your pets
I put about half of our tomatoes in the raised bed...covered tonight with 6mil poly in case it gets cold... and planted cucumber and put a pop bottle over it incase it gets chilly.
Thank you everyone for the nice replies. I am sure your garden is or will look great this year. I am new to this and could not have it looking this good without all the advise I read on TEG.
Here's my update! Front yard:
We pulled out a hedge two years ago and replaced it with a butterfly garden.
The beautiful lantana that keeps coming back bigger and better every year.
I love my perennials! Here's the salvia in its 2nd year:
American Beautyberry, bigger than last year (ordered seedling in the mail):
The milkweed FINALLY came up last week! I don't remember planting it right there, but I guess it's possible!
Backyard:
The Confederate Jasmine is really taking over the arbor.
This is a volunteer grape vine that I transplanted from the front yard. It was growing out of a hedge that we pulled out. I'm not sure what kind it is. At first I thought muscadine, but the leaves aren't round, so now I'm not sure. I planted it last Fall and it is coming back with a vengeance this Spring!
Here's the garden!
First cherry tomatoes! Can't wait to eat these!
First bell pepper!
I REALLY want to install a container water garden to attract some dragonflies to the yard, but I don't have the finances for plants right now. I am also in the process of making my first rain barrel. I started on it this afternoon, but it was so hot outside I thought I was going to burn to a crisp, so I went inside.
I love seeing everyone's updates, it's so interesting to see how different the climates around the country/world are!
Wow Grownveg your yard looks beautiful
THe butterfly garden is wonderful :bouquet and jasmine is lovley and the garden is scrumpous (sp?) You certainly have done some hard and wonderful work :weight
You certainly have been working hard on your veggie garden -- I'm so jealous -- it's so far on. Oh! for more sunshine :coolsun It is warm over here but grey. The sun just can't break through & we also have very high winds.
CONGRATULATIONS :bouquet
Hello karenleaf :happy_flower
I'm !!!
One of my two hens has decided to be a mother She is sitting on 12 or so eggs (hers & her foster mother's, who is a miniature White Rock); "Julia"is a Dorking so can easily cover that many with ease. So in about 3 weeks I shall be a Grandma!
This has distracted me slightly from the raised beds & the portable greenhouse I have been lent by a friend to harden off my seedlings.
I put the first lot of mini plants in yesterday & they survived the night chills just fine. So I'm off outside any minute to pot up more of them. I have set it up in a nice warm, sheltered position that is shady in the middle of the day. We need the shelter as the wind has been very fierce the last week, drying everything out very fast -- just what we don't need as it hasn't rained in about 3 weeks & even then we didn't get enough.
I keep thinking of you & all your hard work (DH included, of course) as the 9th May approaches!
HOW IS IT GOING??? Has the ground dried out in your area -- I know you were worried about that? I hope you get lots of customers & they buy you out. It must be difficult to calculate how much stock to grow!
We will all be thinking of you on the 9th and wishing you a huge success
Meanwhile Happy Gardening everyone -- MAY ALL DREAMS COME TRUE
