As yall know this is my first garden. When I went to the plant nursery to buy plants (wont do that again btw) I bought mustard and collard greens. I didnt know they were cool weather vegetables. Heck I didnt know there were cool weather veggies. Anyway, they are about 3 to 4 feet tall right now with bright yellow flowers.

So, I will try them again in the right season.

No...you were just increasing your seed stock...you just didn't know it

There ya go!!! Harvest those seeds, and get them set for fall. Perfect idea, you won't have to use the nursery again and you should get tons of seeds enough to double, triple, ect your stock in fall. Those plants grow just fine from seed, so need to start inside and move out in the cooler months.

Also, they can grow fine in the warmed months if you mulch their bases and keep them in the shade several hours each day rather then full sun. I did my lettuce and radishes in pots last year. I put them in the sun in the AM and then moved them under the porch over hang for the rest of the day, back out on the deck in the evening. They did great and I had fresh lettuce in August.

You're learning!!! That's WONDERFUL! Don't get upset... just roll with all the positives you are getting from it.

OK, maybe you are an idiot, don't want to argue . But if planting something for the first time is a failure, then you are in good company.

The fun about gardening is that you can make mistakes and it is not life threatening or anything close. This is how you get experience and sometimes learn things. I transplanted okra before my Dad said you couldn't--it lived and produced okra.

So enjoy gardening and enjoy being an idiot.

I concur. I killed my garden twice (and completey gave up on even starting a garden one year). So far, I have learned so much from all those idiot mistakes I made, and the garden is thriving for it.
I like making mistakes. How else do we learn?

Yeap, my gardening motto is "I've killed better plants then this."

At least you didn't kill them, they just bolted on you. A newbie mistake, and it won't be your last. I killed 70 of the best tomato plants grown on this planet last year, so I threw them out and started a whole new set and planted them. No big deal.:coolsun In a couple of years you'll be the expert giving advise.
