I don't like collectibles. I don't like figurines. I don't like pretty mementos that sit on a shelf and need to be dusted.

So our neighbors whom we love and adore, showed up today with a lovely surprise gift for me. I had to pretend to like it and be grateful. I only hope I didn't overdo it so they don't add to my "collection".

A ceramic hen with eggs in a large basket, 4 napkin rings, salt and pepper shakers and a small hen on a nest that we can't figure out what it's for--oh and a hen covered butter dish too. Worst of all, it's ugly. I think I want to go eat dirt.

I'm hoping you haven't introduced your neighbors to this forum...

I don't know what to tell you Bay, it's pretty awkward isn't it? If you donate it to the local thrift store there's always the possibility of them shopping there and buying it for you so you have a matched set.

Are you feeling particularly clumsy? Clumsy enough to trip over a dog on the way to the cupboard?....

Could have been honest. Explain you cherish their taking your family in as friends but you don't have room for things you need let alone antiques. It's not too late.

Being honest would have crushed them. They were so excited to give this to me. I just couldn't do it.

I could not, would not, on a boat.
I will not, will not, with a goat.
I will not eat them in the rain.
I will not eat them on a train.
Not in the dark! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! You let me be!
I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I will not eat them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them ANYWHERE!

I do not like
green eggs
and ham!

I do not like them,
Sam-I-am...

... Sam!
If you will let me be,
I will try them.
You will see.

Say!
I like green eggs and ham!
I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!

Steve :)

 "I want to go eat dirt." BAY!! You slay me!

Looks like a lovely thing to donate to Good Will, just in time for Christmas shoppers.

I'm with you....I don't do figurines or collectibles nor anything else I'll have to dust over the years that has no true function but collecting dust and taking up space.

They might look nice out in that new barn yer buildin'! :D Make a shelf just for them out there or, even better, send them to different destinations like those little garden gnomes...make it a game for your friends and family to take pictures of the ugly chickens at different tourist sites. ;) You could start a scrap book of the ugly chickens and their various travels.

Now there's an idea! I could take the ugly chicken napkin ring picture at the grocery store, the feed store, Tractor Supply, Connie's Café, WalMart, the Post Office, on the tractor, on the horse and in the dog's mouth--just before he buries it...... Heeeere doggie, doggie, doggie...... I know where there's more of those......

@baymule "Don't worry, be happy!"
You can use it for Easter. Take the basket, hide there a chicken. Put on the edge eggs, decoration, twigs ... You can additionally packed in transparent packaging basket and tie a bow-knot on top. The main gift - eggs, chicken - as part of the decor. And remember - there are chickens worse than yours. As an option - you can bury large cock under the chicken coop. As a pagan symbol - to increase fertility! :D
