I have mentioned I have not been felling great, muscle pain. I worried about pulmonary embolism in January and kind of started eating different, but not really and the pain went away, well it all started again and had slight shortness of breath, so went to walk in clinic yesterday. The EKG was fine where as last time it was bad. Blood work fine. Chest x-ray showed blunting of right costophrenic angle, maybe fluid. Did D-dimer, test this morning positive, go to ER. Did the CT scan of chest. I again have blood clots in both lungs. Not as bad as last time, so did not have to stay and they just gave me a blood thinner and prescription for Eliquis. I have different insurance this year. Not as good as before. I will have a $5500 deductible instead of $1000 for all the tests and whatever they did. The prescription, I have a $500 deductible. This medicine is $600 a month without insurance. It cost $500 and will have to go to PCP to get refilled after month. I am so confused as to why this is happening when the hematologist said it was from the chickenpox and infection and would not come back. Went off the blood thinner in July and have had one bad thing after the other happen to me. I am not sure why my blood did this again. Only thing I had was a upper respiratory virus in December, but the hematologist told me I would not have to worry about infections because the chickenpox was a systemic infection but he is also the one that said the blood thinner DH was on did not cause his nose to bleed, and went on and on until his brain was bleeding, so I have no faith. I will take this for awhile, but has anybody here ever come off blood thinners? I am not sure what to think if aspirin is strong enough or how to get a doctor to find out what is going on and not just say shut up and take your pill. I am not sure if weight loss and exercise will help because I read a lot of athletes get this. My blood is thickening for some reason. I am not sure if a vegetable and fruit diet would be enough.

I don't know anything about blood and lung problems. The only difficult news I had personally was a test about 5 years after I quit smoking still showed the effects of 20 years of smoking earlier. Another 25 years have passed so maybe that is no longer true.

Is that employer supplied insurance? Ouch!

Could you be eligible for Medicare and should you begin the process that might take you there?

The state legislature is really "out there" on anything between the 2 federal programs.

This must be very discouraging to you Mary. :hugs

I'm sure you're doing as much research as you can get your hands on about this. One of my sisters had a serious illness starting when she was 8, and my mom discovered that she had to be her own spokesperson and do a lot of research for herself.
She discovered things that some of the doctors weren't aware of that made a difference.

I would encourage you to gather as much information as possible, if nothing else it will help you ask educated questions. It seems like a person has to ask a lot of questions to get answers that a doctor may not volunteer.

Hang in there Mary, you'll come out on the other side of this, and spring will be showing up soon. :)

Find another doctor if the one you have won't give this the attention it SHOULD have, this is something you have to stay on top of, blood clots are not something to fool around with.
Hubby has to stay on blood thinner, heart problems. I was on blood thinners for a year when I had the first go around with cancer, blood clots in the lungs. Went off them a month after chemo finished without any ill effects. This time around they gave me a couple of blood thinner shots when I ended up in hospital, I guess as a preventative but none after I came home.
Sending big :hugs and healing thoughts your way.

Annette
