Here's part #1 (link) but some of you know that I really didn't quit.

What I mostly did was quit drinking coffee at certain times of the day. Like lots of people, I gave up drinking coffee late. For me it was 4pm and I did this several years ago. Later, I gave up coffee early. That meant, no coffee before I've been up for 4 hours. The 4/4 rules.

These things have really helped with stomach upset, I'm convinced of it. Years ago, I also gave up on brewing coffee with so much caffeine. I use 1:2 for the beans. I really think the caffeine is the problem but decafs generally don't taste good to me. I mean - really!

Something I did in 2015 is to quit brewing coffee ..! It wasn't until Christmas that I fired up the grinder and pot again.

You know, it takes time ... I've got time early in the day. Four hours later, not so much. So ... I'm supposed to make coffee and leave it alone for 4 hours? Have mercy!

Drinking Kava in '15, ala @so lucky, was great! I learned to nuke soymilk (a little diluted with H2O), and add the full-caf Kava :D ... however, see above about caf/decaf. But hey! I cannot remember having bought a jar of instant coffee in my life! ... i miss it ...

A thought occurred to me this morning while I was grinding beans and realizing that this morning, I have a little time. What about decaf instant?? Are there any good ones? I d be willing to do the 1:2 with Kava :).

My DH drinks the Folgers decaf in the bags, like tea bags. It needs to brew in the cup for a few minutes. You could make a cup of that, and add a little Kava to it, for the caffeine.
I'm back to drinking Kava first thing in the morning, but I make a small pot of regular coffee mid morning and have that later. So far my stomach is not protesting too bad.

I might go for this, @so lucky .

Do you suppose that the tea bag coffee is just there instant or something else?

The reason I hesitate is that using a tea bag in soymilk works almost not at all. However, I do add about 25% water so I may be able to brew the Folgers in the little bit of water, then add the milk and Kava.

However, if it's just Folgers instant, might as well buy that. Folgers Crystals ..?

It is ground coffee in tea bags!

Why didn't someone think of this before? Convenience of not grinding beans, etc. when I need to get out the door. Handy altho the decaf isn't very flavorful.

I follow instructions but use about 2oz hot H2O instead of 6oz. 1/4 teaspoon of Kava is added. Then, 8oz of soymilk. Nuke 1 minute and I have a flavorful cup of coffee :)!

DS wants me to try a Teeccino coffee substitute, in teabags. Okay, but I gotta find it first. The nearest store that they claimed to have it, didn't. It's made with chicory, and some other things. Could be okay.

I've tried Teecino. It's still in the cupboard. Probably passed it's use-by date a few years ago. I just couldn't get the hang of it. The problem was probably thinking of it as a coffee substitute. Because there is no coffee substitute, there are only different hot things to drink.

I used to use the Folgers coffee bags before I was dedicated coffee junkie. I thought they were pretty good.

Sometimes I feel that way about myself ... Especially early morning, when I crawl out from under the rock.

I have the caffeinated coffee but only after a dose of patient restraint as tho I'm beginning my day warming in the sunlight instead of rushing into the current ...
moment.

I have halved my coffee consumption. I have two small cups in the morning and they are probably one fourth half and half.

Haha! Did you notice all the fractions in that sentence? My math skills must be multiplying.

Yes but I noticed you didn't use the notational symbols but wrote 'em all out!

Obviously, you are working too hard, @thistlebloom ! Treat yourself :).

I use drinks. I believe I've said it before: the neighbors must think, "there goes a cup of coffee, leading Steve out the backdoor, again."

Nope, not drinking less since I "quit."

I'm really enjoying the Kava! Sunday is usually a slow-start day and I have continued to brew a pot of coffee. Yesterday, I didn't wanna! Instead, I used the Kava.

Instant is quick but I didn't need "quick" on a Sunday morning. I just like it. Wouldn't have expected instant coffee to taste good! Making it with so much soymilk must help. See, I'd never get away with 75% soymilk with brewed coffee. Can't put it in the machine, either ;).

Trying the Folgers decaf in teabags hasn't played out well. I put it in the 25% water and steep it well - dunk, dunk, dunk. Pour in the soymilk. Shoot. I can taste the vanilla in the soymilk better than the coffee!

Adding Kava to it helps the flavor, of course but the Folgers amounts to a dilution of flavor. I could buy creamer and use that instead of soymilk, should help, too. Instead, I think I'll continue looking for an instant decaf to tone down the Kava caffeine. Chicory would be really worth a try but I can't find it. I thought it might be with the herbal teas but not in the several places that I checked.

Still haven't found the Teecino, either. I hate to be ordering it online but ... hey! I got an Amazon gift card for father's day! Why not?
