I wasn't implying that backyard growers should be tasked with new strains but at the same time they can still use some selection criteria for the seeds they save as well as pass along to other gardeners.

It's a mindset really. Even if I had say 4 Kimberly plants I'd still only save seeds from the best of the 4 plants, and the seeds from the best fruit once cut open and sampled.

It's not really about breeding a better mater but that doesn't mean you should keep inferior seed.

I've read that there is an anomaly in the commercial market involving BSM and that at least some companies are labeling a similar variety named chernimor (sp) as BSM

Here is a Mortgage Lifter. I got the 1st seeds from Smiles in 2013. Saved those seed for this years crop. We love them. Nice size, seldom if ever split, tasty and fleshy.

That's a beautiful tomato, @Carol Dee . Just perfect. I had one Mortgage Lifter plant my neighbor had given me, but all of the fruit are catfaced very badly. I'll not save seed from them since they're so ugly. I'm glad to see that is not the norm though!
