My question is - Should I have planted my sunflower seeds in miracle gro moisture control potting soil? I didn't think anything about it until I read not to start tomato seeds in potting soil. Will all the fertilizers in the MG kill my sunflowers?:hu

Ummm... I've never started my sunflower in pots and have them do well. But I start them directly in the ground most of the time. Sunflowers are much hardier then say tomatoes and such. I think they will fine in the potting soil, though I do suggest something like a commercial seed starting mix, like Jiffy when starting things from seed inside.

Thank you vfem. I'm hoping you are right. These are dwarf sunflowers that can be raised in a pot. I plan on planting the giant ones in my garden when the time comes. I have started my tomato plants and used seed starter for them but did not have any more left, and used the MG instead for sunflowers. Hope it works!
