Things are creeping along right now but at least they’re moving! They extended the “date” for studded tires this year so yesterday i switched them on my wife's car and then took after the new pea section.

The trellis net 6x17ft was hung and 6ea 25gal pots were positioned and leveled. Then i used a few hoops to hold up a temporary shelter to aid acclimation of the young plants. Oregon giant has been the mainstay for several years but this year im adding some “Amish snap” into the mix too.

And yes, thats still snow along the road edge, in the background!

Your peas are huge! Mine are only a couple of inches high, but they have been growing outdoors through a very cool spring.

Alaskan Compost!

I’ve been watching this old girl most of the winter and in about 2 more weeks she’ll be really odiferous; once the bugs kick in. Just one of the several hundred that die each winter under the heading of “road kill”. Most are salvaged but there’s a few each year that for whatever reason go undetected.

I had a passable day today, 8 of my beds were lightly tilled and hand troweled as i begin laying out the seed beds.
The bees are buzzing too and the lady bugs are making more lady bugs!
An indication of how late our spring is: None of the returning bees are carrying pollen!

Another thing it wont keep out is a tree that fell across the fence during a mid-winter blow. Fortunately it only damaged one panel which i removed and straightened by driving over it from many angles to encourage it back to shape. It’s not perfect but it’ll keep the Moose out!

Yes boards are imperative for this. The straightened panel is the one at the head of this bed.

Moving along, beds are shaping up and getting ready for planting. Today the drip tubes and amendments were added to the Broccoli bed and it was watered to settle in the amendments. Im hoping to have it planted yet this week.
