That is certainly more-or-less the case in the East, Nyboy. Here it is far less often done although run-down country homes are more likely to be torn down and replaced than repaired.

Didn't realize it had come to that. I knew it was sold by the foot in Hawaii.

I was working in a Deli when lunch meats were first sold by the ounce rather than the pound. Lots of angry customers when they realized their 'great deal' was more expensive than the other stores.

Then carpeting started being sold by the square foot rather than the square foot. Stands to reason where land is scarce it would be priced differently. We can still buy country acres for building.
